In this God of War Best Armor Sets Guide, we will list some of the best armor sets in God of War Ragnarok and how you can acquire them. Since Sony Santa Monica revamped the gameplay of God of War, we have seen more and more RPG elements making their way into the game. God of War Ragnarok comes with even more armor sets and thus giving you even more opportunities to go for different builds and switch things up. Despite that, there are some armor sets in the game which are definitely better than the others in different situations and this guide is here to detail just that.
Best Armor Sets Guide – God of War Ragnarok
Here, we have five unique and best armor sets featured in God of War Ragnarok in different scenarios. You should note that none of these armor sets are for every situation and depending on your playstyle, you might find these armor sets more suited or not suited to your gameplay. Apart from the best overall armor set, each armor set is targeted at a specific build.
Early-Game Build
When you start playing God of War Ragnarok, you will not have a lot of armor choices to choose from. Eventually, as you make some progress in the game, you will then start unlocking new armor sets and pieces. For the early game, the best armor set that you can use in the game is without a doubt the Nidavellir Armor Set and you can acquire this armor set fairly early in the game as well.
After you solve the waterwheel block puzzle in the Svartalfheim realm, you will be able to start Mimir’s favor called ‘In Service of Asgard’. During this favor, you will need to reach and destroy three mining rigs. Once a rig is destroyed, it will drop Nidavellir Ore that you must collect. Collect the Nidavellir Ore from all three destroyed rigs and make your way back to the Huldra Brothers. They will forge the Nidavellir Armor Set for you.
The best bit of the Nidavellir Armor Set is that this set comes with bonuses to your health and is aimed at defense builds. With the full set equipped, the chest piece will grant you health for stun-grabbing enemies and the wrists and trousers will reduce the speed at which your stun bars drain, which makes it easier for you to stun-grab enemies. If you are struggling with defense and keeping your health high in the game, this armor set is the best one for you since you can keep getting your health back after every stun-grab.
Mid-Game Build
After you have progressed further in the game, you will start facing tougher enemies and pretty soon your very first armor set will not be enough to protect you from these advanced enemies. At this mid-point of the story, it will be time for you to get yourself a brand-new armor set. For this point, your best bet is Lunda’s Armor Set. This armor set is aimed at players who want to have a decent armor upgrade from the one that you might be using for the early bits of the game.
For obtaining Lunda’s Armor, you must progress in the main story until you have access to the River Delta in the Vanaheim realm. Complete the Nidhogg boss fight and you can then obtain all three pieces randomly by visiting their locations. These are obtained as artifacts.
Once you have acquired all three armor pieces, you can go back to Lunda who will forge the armor set for you. If you are aiming to equip all three armor pieces of the set, you will get a big boost in your strength and luck. Individually, the chest piece adds a poison status effect to your unarmed attacks, parries, and blocks. This adds bonus damage to your hits and you will weaken your enemy’s armor with poison status effects. If you equip the wrist and waist armor of the same set as well, you will get a bonus of increased damage to your enemies. The armor can be upgraded to make it even more powerful, and it is one of the better armor sets that you can find in God of War Ragnarok.
Berserker Build
If you love dealing damage to your enemies then you will surely like our Berserker Build for Kratos. For maximum damage dealing, it makes only sense that you equip a set suitable for God of War, and this time around, it is called the Guiding Light Armor set. As this armor set is based on Tyr, the God of War in Norse Mythology. Getting this armor is no problem as you can get this armor set while you are completing the Favor ‘Guiding Light.
This favor is completed in the Lake of Nine where you must look for messages left behind by Tyr on his destroyed statue. There are three different locations and when you reach these messages, make sure you look next to them as you can find these buried treasures and they are glinting to make it easier for you to spot them. Complete the favor and make sure to find these armor sets while you are looking for the messages and runes.
Since the Guiding Light armor set comes based on a God of War, you can expect that this armor will all about war and damage dealing. Not only does this armor set boost your strength but it also places luck-focused boosters on different attacks. With these boosters in place, all of your attacks will now have a specific type of strength, runic, or luck booster activated at the chance. Apart from this, a small chance of critical-hit explosions is also added to each attack making you even more powerful.
Tank Build
If you prefer a more defensive approach to combat and want to make sure that you are well-protected against incoming enemy attacks, our Tank Build will be just the best one for you. For this build, you will be using the armor set called Raven Tears Armor Set. However, you should note that getting this armor set is no easy task. For getting this armor set, you must open the chests under the Raven Tree in the Niflheim realm. For opening the final chests, you must find and smash a total of 18 ravens across all of the realms. Once done, come back and you will be able to open all of the chests and get this amazing set.
The Raven Tears Armor set is all about providing you with defense. Apart from boosting your defense and reducing incoming attack damage, this armor set also allows you to steal health from your enemies for each hit that you land on your enemies. To make this set even more effective at healing, you can team it up with Leviathan Axe’s Grip of the Fallen Alchemist which is also great for healing with its Serpent Snare attack. This is one of the best armor sets in the game and if you are looking for your final build which will lead into the endgame, this set is a solid contender for it.
All-Rounder Build
If you are looking for an armor set that is perfect for all aspects as well as the endgame content of the game, your choice of armor should be the Steinbjorn armor set. The Steinbjorn armor set is perhaps the best armor set in the game and you can easily use it for various scenarios including defense or attack builds. For getting the Steinbjorn Armor Set, you have to find the Mystical Heirloom and defeat the four frozen trolls to get this armor set. Once you have all four Slumber Stones, you can visit your favorite blacksmith and have them convert the resource into an armor piece. We have a dedicated guide for this.
If you want to play the entirety of God of War Ragnarok, including all of the endgame content including battles, challenges, and everything else, you can easily do so after getting the Steinbjorn armor set. This build grants a massive defense boost alongside a health steal and sends out shockwaves when enemies attack you.
