Santa Monica Studios has announced that it is releasing a PS5 support patch for God of War today that will bring 4K with 60 FPS to all players playing the game on PS5. Previously, by default, the game only had a Performance mode that offered higher resolution and lower frames and a Performance mode that offered higher frames and low visual fidelity. However, with the new patch, the game will offer players the best of both worlds.
This was announced by Santa Monica Studios on their official website where they detailed that studio has been working hard on the patch since the launch of PS5 when the game was offered as part of the PS Plus Collection to PS Plus subscribers. Until now, the game was being run with PS5’s Backward Compatibilty mode however with the latest patch, the game will officially support PS5 as a console and will fully utilize the console’s increased power to deliver a better experience.
According to the post, the new visual features coming to God of War in the new patch include:
- Syncs to 60 FPS
- 4K Checkerboard Resolution
- 2160p
You will obviously require a 4K monitor or TV to play the game in 4K but you can experience the increased frames with better fidelity on a normal screen as well. The support for older visual settings is not being removed from the game as players can switch to the original ‘Favor Resolution’ setting at any time by selecting ‘Original Performance Experience’ at any time in the game. This will offer 4K Checkerboard Resolution synced to 30 FPS.
God of War was released back in 2018 on PS4 where it was greatly loved by critics and fans alike. Despite taking a bold new direction for the franchise, God of War (2018) is still one of the most good-looking and best-narrative titles that I’ve played during the previous generation and I will certainly be jumping back into the game to try out the new PS5 support patch as well.
