Attack Types
There are four general attack types that can be recognized by players during boss fights and mini-boss fights. These attack types will be indicated by their specific highlight just before the attack lands, allowing you to pre-judge and counter accordingly.
The first type of attack is the basic attack, which is not highlighted by the game and can be blocked, parried, or even dodged away. This type of attack is very basic and gives you plenty of options to avoid the hit with your choice of defense, opening up the opportunity for your own counterattack.
The second type of attack will be indicated by a yellow ring. This type of attack can not be blocked. This means that if you see a yellow indicator and proceed to block the incoming attack, you will be unsuccessful in the attempt as it will break your block. However, this type of attack can be both be parried and dodged away.
The third general type of attack is indicated by a b, which now not only makes blocking useless but will also not let you parry. This means that when you see an incoming attack with a red ring, the best option is to dodge away.
The last type of attack is indicated by two blue rings, that can be blocked by countering with a shield strike. The blue rings attack will have a charge up, giving you time to quickly press L1 to shield strike as the attack is released.
Combat Tips
- Now that you know the type of attacks, and have the best gear and weapon skills, all that’s left is to use everything the game has to polish your combat skills, making use of all the additional options at your disposal.
- Use Spartan Rage as you take on all types of enemies. This attack lets you turn into a beast when your Rage meter is full, letting you melee hit any enemy in sight and dishing out devastating amounts of damage.
- Don’t sleep on combo attacks as these will start up your attacks and finish strongly in a single move. As you play more of the game, you will unlock more of these attacking moves to make the fight even more effective.
- Make use of Atreus as it will grant you ranged attacks or take on smaller enemies while you focus on a bigger target. Atreus also comes in handy when performing combo attacks. In addition, Atreus can also distract enemies from you, giving you more options on how to start an attack.
- Don’t forget to heal as you back off. Getting carried away in the boss fight without keeping an eye on Kratos’ health will be one missed move leading to failure. Knowing to step back and heal is key when taking on tougher bosses.
- Defend accordingly by recognizing the attack type, and then blocking and parrying. This allows you to fill up your charged attacks that you can then use when counter-attacking.
- Prepare for boss fights with the right gear and weapon skills as this can significantly give you an advantage over most tough bosses. Having the right skills on your weapons and the best gear with enchantments, armor sets, and more will make Kratos more powerful.
- Explore on Stances, which is unlocked when you have good armor sets that allow you to use this ability. More stances open up new ways to attack, letting you switch between fights and giving you more attacking moves.
