Game Director Reveals Halo Infinite Will be a Spiritual Reboot

Halo Infinite

One of the biggest titles for the next-gen Xbox Series X console is undoubtedly Halo Infinite. The game got its first gameplay reveal this week at the Xbox Showcase event, while the game director, Chris Lee revealed that the title will be a “spiritual reboot.”

In an interview with USA Today, Chris Lee revealed the information when asked about the game. What this means is that Halo Infinite will be centered on Master Chief’s story while paying homage to where it all began in the 2001 title Halo: Combat Evolved.

[343 Industries wanted to] go to the roots of Halo, bring those elements forward, and then modernize them for gamers today. That’s really been a key creative inspiration for us.

This explains why the game looked so familiar to the earlier titles of the Halo franchise. The gameplay also showed us the return of the iconic elements from previous titles, which is a clear indication of where 343 Industries got their inspiration from. In addition, Chris Lee also mentions that the new title will be “the most open and expansive” campaign they have created yet.

You’ll be able to choose how you’re going to approach things, and you’ll end up having this freedom to be able to experience the story and to be able to choose your path through it.

The gameplay reveal footage also featured some new features, especially the new tactical map showing new areas to explore, and the grapple hook allowing Master Chief to quickly reach higher areas or grab enemies to pull them closer. Head of 343 Industries, Bonnie Ross talked about their thinking in developing the game.

We spent a lot of time thinking about what is iconic Halo. And then how do we take what we can do with a next-gen platform and a brand new engine and maybe bring what we only dreamed of to life before.
