Nicalis has teased a physical edition release of Ikaruga for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The teaser shows a physical edition of both the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch versions side by side, int heir disc covers.
Ikaruga is already digitally available on both the consoles, but a physical edition might sound good to players who have not yet given the game a try. Anyone interested in the game now may soon get their hands on the physical editions of the game. The last time the game was in a physical disc form, it was only available on the Dreamcast or the GameCube.

Nicalis also urges fans to sign up to their newsletter, where it seems that there will be some sort of announcement of either a standard retail version or a collector’s edition version of Ikaruga.
Ikaruga is a vertical shoot ’em up that features unique polarity-switching gameplay. Switch the ship’s polarity and “get hit and absorb” enemy bullets. You also achieve high score with the chain bonus. The game features spectacular 3D graphics with fast and smooth gameplay.
Ikaruga is all about the polarity of the player’s ship, enemies and bullets. These are all black or white, and a player can switch polarity at will. Any bullet coming towards your way can have different effects depending on your polarity. If your polarity is the same as the bullets, you get to save that energy for a powerful attack.
If your polarity is different than the bullets, you will get damage. If you successfully master between switching and firing the enemy at the right time, while also absorbing the bullets to store energy, you can then fire powerful homing lasers. You get a chain bonus by defeating three enemies in a row of the same polarity.
The game also features a two-player local and Double Play modes. There are five tactical level designs featuring boss battles and difficulty adjustment.
