Intel 10nm Alder Lake Desktop CPUs Rumored to Launch Around Halloween 2021

Intel 10nm Alder Lake

Some new information has surfaced regarding the Intel Alder Lake CPUs. According to it, Intel is planning to launch its 10nm Alder Lake Desktop during the Halloween season in October this year. This information comes from well-known leaker Moore’s Law is Dead, who hinted at the launch date for the CPUs.

The leaker also provided some new details regarding Microsoft’s support for Intel’s brand-new hybrid architecture processors. According to the rumor, Intel is now expected to launch its 12th Generation Alder Lake Desktop CPUs based on the 10nm Enhanced SuperFin process node in the month of October this year.

The 12th Gen Alder Lake CPUs will be accompanied by the new 600-series platform which features the LGA 1700 socket, DDR5, and PCIe 5.0 support. Intel is also working closely with Microsoft to optimize Alder Lake CPU performance for an upcoming build of its Windows operating system which will bring massive scheduling upgrades.

It is expected that the major update will also be coming out around the same time as the launch of Alder Lake chips. The first unveiling is expected on the 24th of June.

According to the official leaked slides, Intel claims a 20% single-thread performance uplift with its new Golden Cove core design.

Intel also claims that the new Alder Lake processors will be twice as faster as the previous-gen in multi-threaded workloads. The performance gain is due to Intel’s new high-efficiency Gracemont cores and built-in hardware-guided scheduling in the silicon.

The 10nm Enhanced Superfin CPU series will feature Intel Hybrid Technology with small (high-efficiency) and big cores (high-performance). The slide actually features a block diagram with the CPU, which confirms that the full chip is to offer up to 8 Golden Cove big cores and up to 8 Gracemont small cores.

The official slides that were leaked also confirm support for PCI Express Gen5 and Gen4 in 12th Gen Alder Lake platform. There is also a confirmation on DDR5 and DDR4 support on desktop and the big things is that the platform will actually support both memory technologies at the same time.

Information regarding the Intel 600 series Chipset have also been revealed by Videocardz. The new desktop CPUs will support up to dual-channel DDR5-4800 memory. The DDR4-capable motherboards will support up to 3200 MHz. According to the known information, only the high-end Z690 motherboards are to offer DDR5 support for Alder Lake.

The CPU will have 16 PCI Gen5 capable lanes and also 4 lanes in PCI Gen4 standard. The chipset itself will also support Gen4 and Gen3. Finally, Direct Media Interface (DMI) has been upgraded to Gen4. The 600 series motherboards will feature the LGA1700 socket. The shape of the CPU package has changed, which will render all existing cooling solutions for LGA115X and LGA1200 useless for the new CPU series.
