Japanese Press Shares Early Hand-On Impressions of the PS5 Console

PS5 SSD Expansion Guide

Several Japanese Press outlets have published their first hands-on impressions with the PS5. Sony had invited a few Japanese Press members and YouTubers to get a closer look at the PlayStation 5. It is the first time people outside of the company are getting to try the PlayStation 5 besides a one-off demo.

It is also the first time we have seen the PS5 hardware outside of leaked images from Taiwan’s National Communications Commission. A variety of Japanese publications have now published detailed hands-on experiences, images, and videos of the PlayStation 5 which provides a more detailed look at how big the console is and gameplay of titles like Astro’s Playroom and Godfall.

Japanese outlets like 4gamer, AV Watch, Dengeki Online, and Famitsu, as well as actor Natsuki Hanae, have had hands-on time with the PS5 that sheds more light on both the hardware and gameplay. 4gamer has published photos of the PS5 standing both vertically and horizontally, demonstrating how the console is held in place by the stand.

Alongside the console itself, these Japanese publications and YouTubers also got a closer look at the new DualSense controller. This new design includes haptic feedback which replaces the old rumble technology and adaptive triggers that can adjust the resistance of the triggers for different gameplay effects. Sony has even included a microphone, alongside a USB-C for charging the controller. 4gamer also provided a look at the different colored LEDs on the DualSense controller.

The gameplay of Astro’s Playroom and Godfall was also checked out by the publishers. AV Watch was really impressed by the loading times of Godfall where you were back in the action instantly after restarting a game segment. AV watch also reports that the confirm button on the PS5 will be X instead of O going forward for the Japanese region.

None of the videos of publications were able to show the PlayStation 5 dashboard or UI design. Sony has promised a whole new visual language for the console’s UI, but that look and feel seems to remain a mystery till the console launch which is on November 12th.
