Metro Exodus Weapons Guide
Below we have all the information that you will need for the weapons in the game.
Choosing Weapons
When you are out in the world, you are always carrying three weapons. One is always an air-powered gun, while the other two are regular weapons. There is no objection as to what guns you can carry or not, so you can go with two pistols that are kitted differently.
Out in the world, you can swap your weapons with a downed enemy, or you can select your weapons from your workbench on your home base train, Aurora. At the workbench, you can swap the weapon that you want to equip.
Weapon Types and Details
There are currently 9 weapons in the game, with one other weapon coming out soon.
Shambler Shot Gun
This is a high damage dealing shotgun that is best for close ranged shots. The Shambler has taken the humble shotgun and turned it into something else. Something terrifying and deadly to anyone on the receiving end.
Sacrificing reliability, simplicity and even common sense for sheer firepower, the Shambler requires constant attention and tuning. It’s terrifying effect on the enemy can only be described as a cross between a meat grinder and lawn mower.
Revolver
This is the most reliable pistol that deals decent damage and is good at mid-range distances. You can add a lot of attachments on this weapon. Originally produced in the Metro, where ammo was scarce and reload speed a low concern, this classic weapon has enough stopping power to kill a mutant on the spot with a well-placed shot.
Based on the Nagant, complete with gas seal mechanism, the Revolver can be fitted with suppressors as well as other modifications, like carbine stocks and a range of sights.
A-Shot
This is another weapon that deals massive damage, but is best for clos ranged combats. Though its accuracy is all over the place, it still is best to fight large targets and monsters.
A buckshot salvo will make even the toughest and meanest of mutants think about their actions carefully. This shotgun has an extensive variety of upgrades. One barrel can be swapped for a packet of up to four, but that’s just the beginning… Pick from a variety of chokes, stocks, recoil compensators and sights to customize your shotgun.
Kalash
This is an assault rifle that can do any job and is a go to weapon if you want to be safe. It does not deal massive amount of damage but is still a decent option.
One of the few pre-war weapons still in wide circulation, the Kalash has been used in conflicts all over the world, renowned for its unparalleled reliability and firepower in combat. A standard Kalash is already a solid assault rifle, but, thanks to Tokarev, the Spartan version can accommodate a huge variety of upgrades, supporting everything from extended magazines to custom sights. This weapon can also be transformed into a variety of variants, including a submachine gun and an LMG.
Bulldog
This is another assault rifle that is much better than the Kalash, but it has a slow rate of fire and degrades faster. Yet, despite all that, the Bulldog is rare to find. Its complex mechanics require skillful maintenance to keep running. It is hardly surprising that most of the survivors prefer its ‘elder brother’, the indestructible Kalash.
Bastard
This is a quick firing sub machine gun and is quite accurate. However, you have to careful as it overheats just as quick as it fires and is prone to jamming.
You happen to have a length of thin pipe, a dented bucket, rusty anvil and pliers? Perfect, in a couple of days you too might be spraying lead with a Bastard Gun. A popular tool for the denizens of the Moscow Metro, this gunsmith’s nightmare has been turned into a semi-functioning weapon by Tokarev.
Valve
This weapon is a sniper rifle that has a lot of recoil. Factory-made sniper rifles are hard to find in post-war Russia, let alone ones in good working condition. Despite being a makeshift weapon, the Valve is more than capable when it comes to accuracy, and the power of the old rifle cartridge is enough to defeat most protection
Tikhar
This is an air powered weapon in the game that does not deal a lot of damage but it is silent and accurate, which can be significant for stealthy approaches.
This weapon does however requires you to keep pumping it up to keep firing it. Built out of a need for a weapon where bullet shortages were a problem, the Tikhar became indispensable for Spartan Rangers.
Not only does the gun use the ubiquitous ball bearing for ammunition, it is also practically noiseless. The gun uses a high-pressure pneumatic system to pack a punch, and can support incendiary rounds when needed. Just remember to keep the air pressure up.
Helsing
This is a crossbow weapon that is best for stealth in all matters. It actually should be your weapon of choice when stealth is needed. You can, with enough care, use the same bolt to clear out an area without raising any alarm.
When stealth isn’t a concern, you can always switch over to explosive bolts to deliver an extra punch.
Weapon Attachments Customization
Every weapon in Metro Exodus can be equipped with attachments that boost the performance stats of the weapon. Attachments range from grips that improve stability handling, barrels that alters damage, scopes that help your sight aiming down a weapon, extended magazines and the classic red laser pointer gadget.
Attachments usually have to be found or scavenged from loot or downed enemies. When you find a weapon laying on the ground, you can either swap it with your current weapon, or just pick up its attachments. An orange display on the right side of your scree will let you know if the attachment can be equipped on your current weapon you are holding.
If you pick up attachments that are not upgradable on your current weapon, they are stored in your inventory, to be used when you are at your home base in Aurora.
If you want to equip a new attachment on your current weapon, you can do this by opening up your backpack and attach from there.
Best Weapons & Combinations
Weapons in Metro Exodus come with many variations that can compliment the playing style of every player. Every player in the game can have their own favorite weapon that suits their style of play. Some like going guns blazing in the fight, some like to keep their distance and fight in a more controlled manner.
However, having said that, some weapon in the game are just better than some. They deal more damage, and can pair with other weapons to give you a deadly combo in your hands.
Here are the weapons we think are the best or best paired with:
Revolver and Shotgun: These couple of weapons are the best if you are just beginning with the game. The pistol or revolver is so accurate in the mid-range distances, while shotgun is a beast in close combat encounters.
The revolver alone is a pretty complete weapon if you get used to it. in addition, it can have many attachments equipped on to it. it can be turned into a silent pistol, and even a sniper rifle with a 4x scope.
Valve Sniper Rifle: As this is the only sniper rifle in the game. it is way ahead in every other gun at range when you can attach a 6x scope onto it.
Bulldog Assault Rifle: While you have Kalash as a good assault rifle, it still is not as great in packing a punch than the Bulldog, which is why it is our weapon of choice over Kalash.
A-Shot is highly inaccurate, but is great if you are about to fight big monsters. It is a weapon that deals the most damage than any other gun. Dealing high damage is your highest priority in putting the larger monsters down as fast as you can. This is where the A-Shot is your best bet in such a fight.
Weapon Cleaning
This is a vital part of the gameplay as your guns are prone to jamming as they are exposed to rain sand and blizzard conditions.
You can clean your weapon at the workbench by selecting the weapon, and clicking on the brush icon that pops up on your screen on the left. This does use your chemical resources when cleaning, but they can be restocked as they are cheap to buy.
Tips & Tricks
Here are a few tips and tricks that we think can help you with the gameplay and give you some advantage:
- Enemy weak spots are exposed by a orange glow on their body. Shooting these parts deal massive damage, and give you a better chance in downing the enemy fast. An example would be to shoot spiders on their underbelly which will be glowing orange. This will take them down much quicker than if you shoot on their body elsewhere.
- Headshots matter a lot. Even it sounds the most obvious, you are much better at dealing the most damage out of your limited resources. Body shots in the game deal very little damage, which is why headshots are vital.
- Weapon can take some time to reload, and can mean life or death in tricky situations. You do not want to find yourself with an empty magazine when you are in a fight. This is why you should always check your ammo reloads prior to getting into a fight.
- Human enemies are always taking cover, but pop up to shoot. They shoot after a brief period of pause. Shooting them at this point can make you very effective in taking down multiple enemies.
- Tikhar’s incendiary ammo is great to hitting hard to hit spots where enemies may be hiding. Make sure you make use of them during gameplay, and also dealing some damage to nearby enemies.
- Night Vision goggles and night vision scopes are all available in the game. These items are also very important to navigate during the night. Test them out and see what fits you best.
