Game Modes

MLB The Show 21 has several game modes, where the two main game modes where a majority of your time will be spent are Road to the Show and Diamond Dynasty. Road to the Show is your main single-player career mode where you make your own customized Ballplayer, start your career with smaller leagues, and make your way up to major leagues as you rise up through ranks.

The other main game mode is Diamon Dynasty which is all about card collecting and building up a fantasy team of players of the current and past generation.

Other than these two game modes, there are a handful more ranging from single-player season mode, Franchise, Challenge of the Week, Exhibition for online or offline matches, and Custom Practice.

Custom Practice

Custom Practice is basically an offline practice mode where you should spend at least the first few minutes after you have booted up the game for the first time. Whether you know all the ins and outs of baseball or are if it is your first time ever trying to understand and play the game, a practice mode is a great way to start off.

As a new console game, MLB The Show 21 comes with various new features that can take some time in understanding how things work and how you can actually play the game. The game has different pitching controls that will have every player trying to understand how things work and what pitching style suits them best.

Creating Your Ballplayer

Your Ballplayer will be your main character in the game’s career mode. The Ballplayer can be customized with loadouts of your choice and equipped with perks tailored to your playstyle. If you want your Ballplayer to be a catcher, you can equip the Slick Fielding, Power I, and Contact V to make a really good catcher.

This is also where you can change the appearance of your Ballplayer, customizing their looks with what how you want them to look like.

Getting Started / Choosing Difficulty

As a beginner in the game, or if you know how baseball works but haven’t really actually played it in a game, the best way in getting accustomed to the features of the game and how each mechanic works is by playing through the Options Explorer. This where you can test out how pitching works, how you can time your hits etc. From there, you can even move on to Custom Practice to play how all the things you learned in the Options Explorer.

The game offers various difficulty settings for new players, where you can choose the Dynamic difficulty if you are just getting started with the game. Dynamic allows the game to learn your skill and adjust the difficulty according to how you can best play the game going forwards.

Lastly, give yourself some time in adjusting to the new mechanics introduced in the game, the features it brings along, and take advantage of everything you can learn from the tips offered in the game while practicing them out in the practice mode.
