Momo Suicide Challenge is a terrifying pest that has infiltrated different platforms and games. It has been taken down multiple times but it seems to come back bigger than ever. This time it seems to be targeted at children and YouTube content especially Fortnite and Peppa Pig videos.
The most recent report of the Momo Suicide Challenge comes from a mother in England who reported the incident as follows:
The video paused half way through, but he didn’t press pause. Then the Momo face popped up and was making weird noises. He couldn’t hear everything it said but it was saying ‘I’m going to kill you’ and he thinks it said ‘I will hurt your friends.’ He turned it off straight away and ran downstairs. He was absolutely terrified. He wouldn’t leave my side at all after it happened. He wouldn’t stay in a room alone and he had to sleep with me in my bed last night. He asked for our German shepherd to sleep on my bed also so she could chase away Momo if she got into my room.
You can see why children are scared and why parents are worried about the content that children and watching online. You too should keep an eye on what your children are watching, at least for now.
The challenge took root on Whatsapp but has spread to other platforms and games ever since. A YouTube spokesperson touched on the matter and denied the existence of the Momo Suicide Challenge on YouTube. The following is what he had to say in this regard:
Contrary to press reports, we’ve not received any recent evidence of videos showing or promoting the Momo challenge on YouTube. Content of this kind would be in violation of our policies and removed immediately.
Keeping in mind that this all started on Whatsapp, the company also commented on the matter and had the following to say about the issue:
WhatsApp cares deeply about the safety of our users. It’s easy to block any phone number and we encourage users to report problematic messages to us so we can take action.
The YouTube app could be coming to the Nintendo Switch in the future and Whatsapp has already been banned in China.
