Mortal Kombat 11 Running On Custom Unreal Engine, Not Unreal Engine 4

Mortal Kombat 11 DLC

Amid confusion on what engine Mortal Kombat 11 will be running on, it seems that the game will be running on a custom version of Unreal Engine 3. As opposed to some confused Wiki page editors who keep adding Unreal Engine 4 as the engine of the game.

NetherRealm Studios’ Programming Lead Jon Greenberg has taken the matter in his own hands and clarified that the game indeed is not running on Epic’s Unreal Engine 4, rather it is built on NetherRealms custom version of Unreal Engine 3. Also adding that their custom engine is radically different from Epics UE4.

Unlike the most recent games that we have seen that have been built on Unreal Engine 4 like Tekken 7 and Street Fighter V, Mortal Kombat is not running on the UE4. However, the mobile version of Mortal Kombat 11 will indeed be using Unreal Engine 4. This was also confirmed by Jon Greenberg himself on twitter.

Meanwhile a new story trailer was also released of Mortal Kombat 11 just ahead of its Kombat Kast live stream event that will reportedly show us Kano’s gameplay today.

In addition, a complete character roster of the game was also leaked online that showed all of the characters that might be coming to the game, and also empty slots that are presumably for the DLC characters to be added later to the game. The leaked images showed Johnny Cage, Sub-Zero, Baraka, Geras, and many other characters that we have see yet.

Mortal Kombat 11 is set to release on 23 April, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. Have you looking forward to the Kombat Kast stream event today? Let us know in the comments below.
