Mortal Kombat Reboot Movie is going to have a new story and will not have the same content as the previous ones. Greg Russo mentioned that those settings and stories have already been told in the previous movies that is why he is not going there with the new movie. The original MK movie was great but the same cannot be said about the ones that followed.
I think that he is right. If the movie is getting a reboot then there should be a new setting rather than adding effects to the same old story and increasing the production quality. I am sure that there are some people that would like to see that but more people are going to be interested in a new story. Russo mentioned the following regarding the story of the Mortal Kombat Reboot Movie:
And the mission statement for the new film has always been, we don’t want to repeat what you’ve already seen. That doesn’t really appeal to anybody, I don’t think. And they already have those films. So at the same time we wanted to tell a new story that’s going to be exciting, but that’s gonna be faithful to the lore and the games that everybody knows and loves.
Right off the bat, a great decision about the story has been made. That has got my hopes up and this might be a great movie. It will be interesting to see what Russo does this time but the movie is not going to be out for a while so a lot can change between now and 2021.
Russo mentioned that the goal here is to come up with something fresh. A new story would be something fresh indeed. He went on to mention the following about the upcoming Mortal Kombat Reboot Movie:
So the mission statement was really just bring your passion to the project and let’s figure out what the best story is for a new film adaptation that feels fresh and at the same time pays respect to the game.
Russo previously talked about the movie and mentioned that while all the characters cannot be a part of it, fans will see some familiar faces.
