Recently, Nintendo announced that Nintendo Switch owners who will purchase the Nintendo Switch Online premium service would receive free NES games every month and to make the deal even sweeter, they announced special NES controllers for Nintendo Switch console as well. They were aimed at players who would buy the Online premium service as it would make them eligible for buying these awesome nostalgic controllers.

But now recently Nintendo has announced that these NES controllers for Nintendo Switch can only be used to play NES on the Nintendo Switch. This comes as a deal breaker for most players as to why would they spend $60 on a pair of controllers that will only work with NES games. In addition, it is not even the complete NES lineup planned for Switch with which these controllers are compatible with, only certain NES titles will support these controllers.

With limited NES titles support and no original Switch titles support, these controllers are not really a bargain to go with. If you are looking for unofficial NES controllers for Nintendo Switch, there are plenty of other companies that are already making such controllers that support Nintendo Switch titles as well.

This has been revealed by Nintendo’s official AU website where it is written in the product description. Check out the official statement from the store listing below.

Please note: Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers can only be used while detached from the Nintendo Switch system, and only to play NES – Nintendo Switch Online games. Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers can be charged by attaching to the Nintendo Switch system.

The website also states that the controllers cannot be used while attached to the system and you will need to detach them from the system to play games with them. They can only be charged while connected to the system.

These restrictions are increasing day by day as they get revealed by Nintendo and thus making the purchase of these nostalgic controllers very difficult for Nintendo Switch owners.
