Reports have suggested that two new Apple Watches have entered production. Apple supplier ASE Technology is packaging core chips for at least two new Apple Watch models based on its system-in-package (SiP) technology.
Earlier this week, Bloomberg reported that the new Apple Watch lineup will include a successor to the Apple Watch Series 5 and a replacement for the Series 3 that will compete with lower-cost fitness trackers like Fitbits.
According to DigiTimes, the System-in-Package technology which will be featured in the new Apple Watches as well as the third-gen AirPods will be in high demand next year. And ASE technology is preparing these chips and the chips for the new Apple watches enter the production.
The SiP technology refers to Apple’s process where multiple chips in the product are stacked together for better spatial allocation. It is noted that the Series 6 will be one of the first smartwatches to use the technology.
The Series 6 Apple watches will feature a new S6 processor. Rumored features include a new S6 processor for improved performance, expanded health capabilities like blood oxygen monitoring, and faster Wi-Fi and cellular speeds. As for the SiP technology, it will be part of the third-gen AirPods which will potentially launch in the first half of 2021 as it was previously speculated.
Apple is rumored to have several other products in its pipeline, including a 10.8-inch iPad Air with an edge-to-edge display like the iPad Pro, a smaller HomePod, over-ear AirPods headphones, a new Apple TV, and item tracking AirTags.
Apple usually hosts its iPhone reveal event in September. But due to the ongoing global health crisis, the company delayed the event to October. Due to delays in production and assembly, we might see the iPhone 12 launch a few weeks later than it was originally expected.
