Nintendo has just released its latest financial report stating that the current Nintendo Switch sales have overtaken the Nintendo 3DS console. This comes within the four years since the console’s launch.

The latest report mentions that there have been 79.87 million Nintendo Switch devices that have been shipped worldwide, while the console is the fifth best-selling device by the company. The Nintendo Switch now sits behind the Game Boy Advance which is at 81.5 million, while the top-selling console is the Nintendo DS that sits at 154 million units shipped.

The report reveals the recent games that have boosted the console last year. These titles include Paper Mario: The Origami King, Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and more.

There were 29 titles which sold over one million units for this fiscal year, including titles from other software publishers. As a result of these factors, hardware sales reached 24.10 million units (an increase of 35.8% year-on-year), and software sales reached 176.10 million units (an increase of 43.0% year-on-year).

Titles released in previous fiscal years also retained momentum and continued to sell well, making significant contributions as drivers of hardware sales.

As a result, net sales reached 1,404.4 billion yen, with overseas sales of 1,089.8 billion yen accounting for 77.6% of the total. Operating profit came to 521.1 billion yen, ordinary profit was 528.2 billion yen, and profit attributable to owners of parent totaled 376.6 billion yen.

The report also reveals that the Switch is going to get the Buddy Mission: Bond which is slated for a release in January, as part of the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary campaign. This is in addition to the variety of titles from other software publishers scheduled for release this year.
