Nostalgic Platformer Ruffy and the Riverside Demo Arrives on PC

Indie developer Zockrates Laboratories and publisher Phiphen Games have officially unveiled the demo for Ruffy and the Riverside, now available on Steam. This early look at the vibrant world of Riverside arrives just in time for the game’s participation in Steam Next Fest, running from February 24 to March 3. You can jump in now and experience a fresh take on 3D platforming, blending nostalgic charm with innovative mechanics.

The demo invites you to collect stars by completing a variety of challenges, offering a gameplay structure reminiscent of classic Nintendo 64 platformers. You of that era will find plenty to love, from colorful environments to rewarding exploration. The game’s full release is also on the horizon, with plans to launch on PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, alongside its availability on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Ruffy and the Riverside features a unique SWAP mechanic, which allows you to copy and paste textures within the game world. This innovative system lets you manipulate the environment in creative ways—transforming ice into lava, waterfalls into vines, or walls into rubble to clear new paths. The ability to alter the game world on the fly opens up limitless possibilities, ensuring that each challenge can be approached with a fresh strategy.

The adventure follows Ruffy, a spirited hero tasked with stopping the villainous Groll from unleashing chaos upon Riverside by destroying the World Core. Along the way, Ruffy will encounter a lively cast of allies, including Pip the sassy bee, Sir Eddler the adventurous mole, and Silja the wise turtle. Each character adds depth to the unfolding story, offering unique quests and interactions that make the world feel dynamic and immersive.

Beyond its 3D platforming elements, the game also incorporates 2D challenges, requiring you to think strategically and use the SWAP mechanic to navigate obstacles and uncover hidden treasures. These sections add variety to the gameplay, keeping you engaged with a mix of exploration, puzzle-solving, and action.

Riverside itself is an expansive world filled with diverse regions to explore. You can take on side quests, uncover hidden collectibles, and interact with an array of colorful characters. From riding hay bales and skating along secret rails to teaming up with the Fish Gang to take on formidable foes, the game is packed with moments of discovery and adventure.
