According to new rumors that have surfaced, NVIDIA’s upcoming RTX 3080 Ti graphics card will launch with a hash limiter to keep the crypto miners away from them. NVIDIA first introduced the hash limiter in its RTX 3060 graphic card. And now, RTX 3080 Ti will also get the same GPU hash rate-limiting treatment as the GeForce RTX 3060 to counter crypto miners.
NVIDIA’s RTX 3080 Ti has been rumored for quite some time now, with the card appearing with several different GPU configurations at different times. According to the latest rumors, NVIDIA’s RTX 3080 Ti will be powered by the GA 102-250-KD-A1 GPU. The GA102-250 GPU will feature 10240 CUDA cores within a total of 80 SM units.
The RTX 3080 Ti will feature 12 GB of GDDR6X memory. The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will retain the same memory speeds as the RTX 3080 at 19 Gbps. Since we are getting 12 GB memory, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will be using a 384-bit bus interface which equals a total bandwidth of 912 GB/s. The larger bus interface should drive higher memory bandwidth. The graphics card is said to have a TDP of 320 watts, the same as the RTX 3080.
And now, according to the rumors, RTX 3080 Ti will also limit hashing rates of multiple cryptocurrency mining algorithms, the biggest one being Ethereum. If NVIDIA applies the same 50% hash rate limit as the RTX 3060 to the RTX 3080 Ti, we get around 45-50 MH/s which is the same mining rate as the RTX 3070.
NVIDIA has already stated that existing GPUs will not be affected by the hash rate-limiting tech but upcoming SKUs will definitely be receiving modifications to counter cryptocurrency miners. We will have to wait and see if NVIDIA can produce enough stock for the RTX 3080 Ti so that it can satisfy the need of gamers in the market.
