Blizzard Entertainment Announces Overwatch 2 With a Trailer

Overwatch 2

Blizzard has just announced Overwatch 2 at its Blizzcon 2019 event. The title will be the sequel to its popular shooter Overwatch, which was released three years ago. The first title is quite popular, thanks to Blizzard adding in a ton of content since launch and adding new characters, maps, and game modes to keep it on the top charts.

The announcement also released a cinematic trailer called “Zero Hour.” Check it out below:

The announcement was made by the creative director of Overwatch Jeff Kaplan, who went on to explain what the sequel will feature. The game will now have a co-op PvE multiplayer experience. This means that the players will also have to play against many computer-controlled enemies. The game will also have the Hero Missions which will allow players to level up their own characters and get customization rewards to unlock new abilities.

Why a sequel? What does that mean to me as a player of the original game? Well, we thought about it, and for us as gamers, sequels make us nervous. So what we’re hoping to do with Overwatch 2 is really redefine what a sequel means. I think some explanation is in order right now.

For all original players of the current Overwatch game, you will get to play on all of the same maps as Overwatch 2 players, including all the brand new maps that are coming to Overwatch 2, and you’ll get to play with all of the same heroes as Overwatch 2 players. It will be a shared multiplayer environment where no one gets left behind. We want to make sure that all Overwatch cosmetics come forward with you into Overwatch 2, so all your progress matters. Nothing gets left behind.

Kaplan also wen on to explain that the game will also see a significant engine upgrade that will allow for bigger maps, as well as new types of enemies to be added in. However, Kaplan did say that the team has not set a release date yet and that they don’t have a date in mind.

In the meantime, Kaplan added that the original game is going to receive new content updates, where players will get new cosmetics and access to other seasonal events.
