However, boss battles in Paper Mario: The Origami King are very unique. Instead of just heading towards the boss and start attacking, you have rings between you and the boss. Let’s take a look at how these rings work, how you should fight a boss, and what weak points you need to hit with a weapon.
Paper Mario: The Origami King Earth Vellumental Boss Guide
Earth Vellumental boss is a large green turtle boss that you encounter pretty early in the game. As the first boss, you will be getting lots of help in understanding the rings between you and the boss, where to attack, and what weapon to use.
The rings need to be arranged in such a way that you have a clear shot at the boss or its weak point. The rings have their own pointed arrows, which can be arranged by shifting each ring left or right. You also have a few moves in each turn to perfectly line up the rings to get close to the boss.
You always have the first turn, and after your attack is finished, the boss will produce its own attack that you can defend for minimum damage. Blocking needs to be done at the perfect moment by pressing A every time the boss produces an attack. Earth Vellumental will usually hit you three times in a row, which means you need to press A three times right when the attack begins.
Since Earth Vellumental is a turtle with a natural defense which is its shell, you have a few weak points to hit that will decrease the boss’ HP. The game will guide you to hit the legs with the hammer, which will cause the limb to retract into the shell, and mark the end of your turn.
This boss fight can be quickly finished if you attack the boss at the tail, which is the weakest point of Earth Vellumental. Hitting it will force him to retract completely in the shell, where you can then use the 1000 Fold Arms from the Magic Circle on to grab and flip the boss over on its shell and enter Rush Time to hit it several times. This will immediately end the battle. However, if you fail to do so before the Rush Time ends, the boss returns with half health, starting the process all over again.
