Sony has announced that PlayStation 5 has set a new launch record and so far, it is the biggest console launch for the company. Sony confirmed this today on their official PlayStation Twitter account. Apart from this, fans waiting for their next-gen consoles would be happy to know that Sony has also announced that more inventory will be shipped to global retailers before the end of this year.
We want to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever. Demand for PS5 is unprecedented, so we wanted to confirm that more PS5 inventory will be coming to retailers before the end of the year – please stay in touch with your local retailers.

Despite selling out extremely quickly every time the console comes in stock at any retailer, tons of gamers are still waiting for their console to arrive before the holiday season arrives. Two of the hottest titles currently on PS5 include Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls which are probably the reason why gamers are inclined more towards getting the PS5 console over Xbox Series X.
At this point, the console is out of stock from every major and minor retailer and online sellers however as previously reported, some scalpers are still hoarding on a major PS5 stock which they aim at selling at an increased and unfair price for profits by taking advantage of waiting fans. The normal rate of a disc-version PS5 is $500 while a disc-less PS5 is set at $400 but the hoarders and scalpers are selling the unit for $2000 and even more.
However, even with all these issues, Sony is happy with the launch of its next-gen console and Jim Ryan also Tweeted that nearly everything is sold out everywhere. PlayStation 5 is indeed Sony’s biggest console launch in history despite it was launched during the world’s worst pandemic of recent times. People are preferring purchasing their consoles online and Sony itself has sold consoles only online which has led to this artificial shortage in the market that scalpers have created with their bots snatching entire stocks before people can hit that buy now button.
