Aesir Interactive and astragon Entertainment have announced their new project Police Simulator: Patrol Officers which is slated for an early access release via Steam this spring. Police Simulator: Patrol Officers is dubbed as an authentic police simulator where players will don the badge of a male or female United States police officer and patrol the first district and five neighborhoods of a bustling American city.
The game is being developed by a game development grant from the German FilmFernsehFonds Bayern funding body and the retail price for the game has been set at $24.99. Before we jump into additional details, check out the reveal trailer of the game below:
Police Simulator: Patrol Officers is originally planned to releaser in early access after which the game will continue to receive regular updates based on players and police fans. The game aims at portraying a realistic picture of a patrol officer in a fictional city in America called Brighton. At launch, the game will feature the first neighborhood of the introductory city district. If the players perform well and impress their supervisors, they will unlock additional districts for themselves as well.
Each of the five districts will be heavily detailed and pedestrians and vehicles will be plenty. This will represent the complexity of a real city and will also mean plenty of work for a patrol officer as well. As the game spends more time in early access, it will eventually expand into two more districts and ten more neighborhoods. You will be able to choose your character from eight different offices and more and more features will continue to unlock in the game as you progress.
During the workday, you will collect shift-points that become duty stars that unlock new districts, new neighborhoods, and also new police cars for you. During your shifts, your tasks will include enforcing parking regulations, recording traffic accidents, and penalizing traffic offenses like speeding or jaywalking. Sometimes, you will also come across wanted suspects which will result in a police chase.
As a police officer, you will also have to be appropriate and lawful towards the citizens. A Conduct Point System will monitor all abuses of power in the game and if you are found guilty of abusing your power, you will be trialed under the department’s code of conduct and if found guilty, you will be stripped of your badge and fired. The game will also feature a more relaxed casual game mode where players will be able to receive hints and will have much more leniency as compared to the main simulation mode of the game.
Key features of the early access release include:
- Parking surveillance – Situative issuing of parking tickets and/or towing of vehicles for parking against the direction of travel, exceeding the permitted parking time, and non-observance of parking restrictions. Fines may also be issued for parked cars with expired license plates.
- Traffic violations by pedestrians – If a pedestrian is endangering themselves and others (by ignoring a red light at an intersection, for instance), officers should intervene. Careless littering is also frowned upon on the streets and sidewalks of Brighton.
- Traffic accidents – Different types of accidents, which can develop dynamically from traffic events, will demand different actions by officers. This includes calling for an ambulance, interviewing witnesses, drug and alcohol tests, and more. Players should always keep a watchful eye on moving traffic.
- Speed control – Measure the speed of moving vehicles while standing on the roadside with a radar gun or by utilizing the speed measuring instrument in one’s police car. Issue tickets when appropriate.
- Search and arrest wanted suspects – Now and then, the police department’s call center will issue information about wanted suspects. One may encounter a person matching the call center’s descriptions during patrol. A key element of investigations is questioning witnesses, as they might offer valuable information regarding a suspect.
- Traffic control – Going on patrol in one’s police car will offer players new perspectives on Brighton’s traffic and streets. Use sirens to pass around other vehicles or to prompt them to pull over.
For assistance, you will have access to a Crime Map which will maintain an overview of the different districts and neighborhoods of the city where you can monitor increases in offenses and determine where a stronger police presence is required and where not. For the future, the developer has announced new features like a cooperative multiplayer mode for the game as well which could be really fun to play with a friend or family member. A Steam page is now live for the game and you can add it to your wishlist if you want to.
