The new war and diplomacy game Precipice by Little Red Dog Games is now out on PC via Steam while a Linux version is arriving later this month. Players are now able to jump in tense matches of Cold War chicken in singleplayer games or against a rival in 2-player online multiplayer matches.
Precipice will test every last bit of cunning and patience of players as they try to defeat their opponents while trying not to launch the nukes at the same time annihilating everything in existence. The game spans over forty years of hostilities between the United States and the Soviet Union and will put the players in the shoes of either one of the superpower.
Players will try their best to maintain a dominant position over the world by controlling and maintaining alliances with different countries around the world while making sure that hostilities do not extend to the matter than unrest in their own countries reach its peak. The advances AI in Precipice studies player behavior and movements and try its best to counter them with the best possible moves.
The game runs on assumptions and judgments which is considered very hard for an AI to understand but it works so well in Precipice that players will be baffled by the smartness of the AI in certain scenarios. AI will make its own strategies and develop different plans to counter the player’s strategies.
The lead developer Ryan Hewer says:
Precipice isn’t a wargame, it’s a game of subterfuge. You will send agents around the world, protecting your closest allies and changing unfavorable regimes without giving away your long-term ambitions. For that reason, this game is a strategic gem where your success will depend squarely on your ability to misdirect your rival and show bravery when it is needed.
More features of Precipice include:
- Tense strategy for one or two players. Face a highly-responsive, unpredictable AI that will attempt to understand your strategy and counter it at every turn, or invite a friend and see if you can collectively work to avoid global catastrophe online.
- World leaders from 74 countries realized as animals native to the region, all pawns in the dangerous game of nuclear chicken.
- Manage resources from territories under your control to resolve immediate crises or win over future allies.
- Recreate history, or forge your own path. Put a bear on the moon. The possibilities are endless.
- Simple, intuitive gameplay that is also difficult to master.
