PS5 has not been officially released yet but it is interesting to see that you can pre-order the console from the Swedish retailer MediaMarkt. The price of the PS5 is 9,999 Swedish krona which converts to $1,040 or £850. Prices will vary depending on exactly where you live but these numbers do not seem to be accurate.
It is unlikely that the PS5 will be available for pre-order at such a high price. The console has not even been announced yet and is supposed to release alongside the Xbox Scarlett in the Fall of 2020. The retailer does have a disclaimer: “NOTE! Price and product information is preliminary and subject to change.” So I would take this price with a grain of salt if I were you.

We recently talked about how the tariffs imposed on China by the US could increase the prices of the PS4 and the PS5. Sony has issued a statement to the US government regarding the matter but even with that in mind $1000 seems a bit of a stretch. $600 would have been reasonable and people would have the chance of slamming Sony for pricing the PS5 too high but this number is most likely a placeholder of sorts.
Mark Cerny has mentioned that the price of the PS5 will be appealing to gamers and Xbox boss Phil Spencer has mentioned that Xbox Scarlett pricing will be reasonable. With that in mind a $1000 price tag, is out of the question.
Let us know what you think about this PS5 pre-order place holder and whether or not you would be willing to pay this much in order to get your hands on the upcoming console before anyone else.
