The PS5 and Xbox Anaconda are the upcoming next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft and while both have their secret sauce, they are powered by AMD. As AMD is providing the hardware that is going to power these consoles, the company can tell us when the PS5 and Xbox Anaconda will release. AMD CEO Lisa Su did not give it away but we do have a hint.
AMD CEO Lisa Su talked about the semi-custom business and may have hinted at when we can expect to see the PS5 and Xbox Anaconda. The following is what she said in this regard:
So, yes, we are very pleased with our partnership and expanding our partnership with Sony on their next-generation consoles. As we see, the semi-custom business at this point, we still believe that it’s going to be down substantially in 2019, let’s call it approximately 20%-plus. And then as we go into 2020, without talking about any specific customer, we believe that semi-custom will return to a growth business for us in 2020 and beyond.
While this is solid information from AMD CEO Lisa Su herself, you should not take this to heart. Even though AMD is providing the hardware, it is up to Microsoft and Sony to decide when they want to release these consoles. What we do know is that AMD expects to see a growth in the semi-custom business and that is most likely due to the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Anaconda release.
E3 2019 is around the corner and even though Sony is not taking part in the event Microsoft is. So, we might hear more about the Xbox Anaconda at the event. Microsoft has confirmed that it is going big this year so we are bound to hear some exciting news from the company. Xbox Anaconda release date might be part of the event as well.
Let us know what you think about the upcoming consoles and which one you are interested in getting.
