Rainbow Six Siege Reveals New Operator Thunderbird and Favela Map Rework

Rainbow Six Siege Thunderbird

The new season of Year 6 of Rainbow Six Siege will bring a new operator called Thunderbird with a map rework to Favela. Thunderbird is the new indigenous operator who comes from the Nakoda nation, a North American First Nation.

Year 6 Season 2 of Rainbow Six Siege is called North Star, where you will get you to play as Thunderbird, the new Defender in the game. Thunderbird comes with her Kona Healing Station which she can deploy, healing any player, be it ally or enemy – close to the device, even if they are downed.

Check out the Rainbow Six Siege Thunderbird reveal trailer:

The Kona Station does have a cooldown between each charge, which makes sense for gameplay balancing issues. What is interesting is that Thunderbird is a three-speed operator, meaning she is one armor but blazing fast around the map. She comes equipped with a SPEAR .308 or SPAS-15 as the primary weapon and BEARING 9 or Q-929 as a secondary weapon.

Moving on to the map changes, North Star will introduce a reimagined Favela map with rooms, a better map overview, and improved navigation. The changes will now improve readability, make sure players always know where they are and where they are going when playing on Favela. Admittingly, the map can be pretty confusing for new players, especially for new players. This will be welcome news for everyone, whether it be Siege veterans or newcomers.

Additional updates coming with North Star include:

  • Scoreboard 2.0
  • New corpse icons
  • Bullet holes fix
  • Operator balancing (Melusi, Mira, and Maestro tweaks and Gas Propagation rework)

Ubisoft has also planned to start the North Star test server which will test out two new features; a revamped armor system and activities after death.

Players’ armor will be converted to additional health so they have better visibility on their armor’s impact. Additionally, players will have new activities after death, with Attackers being able to control their own drones while some Defenders will be able to use their gadgets after their death (including Maestro, Echo or Mozzie). These changes will have a strong impact on gameplay and need to be tested to get players’ feedback.
