Razer has unveiled a concept design of a new reusable N95 mask and the company is calling it the World’s smartest mask. The Smart Mask by Razer is currently called ‘Project Hazel’ and it is a concept design with a glossy outside shell made of waterproof and scratch-resistant recycled plastic and the mask has RGB lighting and voice projection features.
According to Razer, Project Hazel is a surgical N95 but currently, the mask does not have any official approvals and certifications from the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or Occupational Safety and Health Administration. But Razer says that they are working with a proper team of experts to develop this mask.
The main feature of this mask is the 2 zones on both sides of the mask for ventilation and according to claims by Razer, Project Hazel will use active disc-type ventilators. These will filter the air that’s breathed in, as well as the CO2 that is being exhaled. The filters are capable of filtering 95 percent of airborne particles, including the COVID-19 virus and other common pathogens.
The ventilators are detachable and can be recharged. It is currently unknown how long they will be effective and how Razer will inform the user when to change their filters. Project Hazel mask has microphones and amplifiers embedded in the ventilators that will project your voice through the mask. Razer says it is working with THX sound engineers to find the balance for the speakers’ volume.
The Razer Project Hazel smart mask also has Chroma RGB lights on each respirator zone. In the dark, a set of LEDs will activate automatically to shine a light on your mouth so others can still see you talk. Razer plans to include a large charging case that sterilizes the mask with UV light when it is not in use. However, this concept is in an early stage at the moment.
We will have to see if and when Razer releases this smart mask out to the public and how this mask will work in practical life.
