In the game, you can increase your honor level to unlock new clothing as well as be able to play a honor mission that is otherwise inaccessible to you until you reach Level 4 in Honor. The mission is called Do Not Seek Absolution that is found when you are in Chapter 6 of the Story Missions. Completion of this mission will give you the Lending a Hand trophy/achievement.

Release the Caught Fish Back in the water

This is the best way to earn honor and has the least bit of working to do, and that it can be repeated multiple times. When you catch a fish, releasing it will increase your honor rating. As you throw the fish back, you will notice your honor rating meter shift to the right of the bar, indicating that your honor has increased.

Camp Activities and Favors

Occasionally, members of your gang will ask favors from you or to join in activities. Accepting these requests will increase your honor. Requests can range from fetching items, going somewhere specific for a small task, or even joining in activities like mini-games.

Tithing Box

Regularly donating to the camp’s Tithing Box can increase your honor. Donate a sum of money and you will notice your Honor rating goes up.

Random Encounters

You will occasionally find random encounters on the map with various events or situations going on. These can include helping a stranger retrieve his personal belonging to giving medicine to a wounded stranger. Keep a lookout or such encounters that can increase your honor if you complete the tasks.

Bounty Hunts

Bounty hunts can be found in the Sheriff’s Offices or the post office where you are required to hunt a WANTED criminal and bring him alive to the Sheriff’s Office. This will not only reward you with money but also increase your honor rating. There are many bounties that you can find and complete all throughout the major towns of the map.

Surrendering to Lawmen & Paying off your Bounties

If you have got in trouble by committing a crime or got into illegal activity, the best way to increase your honor is to cause no more trouble and surrendering to Lawmen if you are being chased. In other ways, you can also pay off your bounties to increase your honor, and to keep lawmen away from you in the first place.

Main Story Missions

You also get Honor ratings in Story Missions, there are sure ways to increase your honor if you make certain decisions. This is a fast and reliable way to increase honor but there are limited opportunities for getting them.

Daily Missions

There is much daily mission that you can perform multiple times even after the end of the Story Missions, which can increase your honor rating.
Killing the Rats

This is also a very small way to increase your honor if you decide to get the pesky rats off the streets in the town. However, it is more of an amusing thing rather than being an effective way to gain honor.

Rewards for Honor Level Increase

As mentioned before, there are 8 levels of honor that you can increase you with Rank 8 being the highest of all and ranks. Below we have listed what rewards you get at each Rank Level:

  • Honor Rank 1: Drop rate from looting dead bodies increased for items like Dead Eye tonic, thrown weapons, alcohol, tobacco, and chances of finding gems and more cash.
  • Honor Rank 2: You get 10% off from items in shops and stores
  • Honor Rank 3: Unlock clothing items like the Chevalier, the Bulldogger, the Cowpuncher, the McLaughlin, the Roscoe, the Valentine, and the Cumberland.
  • Honor Rank 4: Unlock the Mission “Do Not Seek Absolution” of Chapter 6
  • Honor Rank 5: You get 25% off from items in shops and stores
  • Honor Rank 6: More new Outfits get unlocked at stores. These outfits are the Dewberry Creek, the Farrier, the Gambler, the Drifter, the Deuville, and the Faulkton.
  • Honor Rank 7: You get 50% off from items in shops and store
  • Honor Rank 8: This is the highest level you can go to, it doesn’t reward you but you get to be at the best of respectable level and the most honorable.

There are certain choices that you can take to gain honor in Story Missions. Below we have listed all the mission and the choice that will gain you honor.

To increase honor, you need to accept Marie’s request to save Jamie.

Story Mission – Polite Society, Valentine Style (Chapter 2)
In this mission, calm the horse and bring it back to the owner to increase your honor.

In this mission, you need to save the witness who is hanging from the cliff. This will increase your honor.

Story Mission – Polite Society, Valentine Style (Chapter 2)
When you find that you are chasing a witness, Arthur will be on a horse automatically. If you return the horse back to its owner after the chase, your honor will increase.

Story Mission – Sodom? Back to Gomorrah (Chapter 3)
In this mission, if you crack the safes without blowing them up, your honor will increase.

Story Mission – Brothers and Sisters, One and All (Chapter 4)
you can increase your honor in this mission by finding a boy who will drop a crucifix. Bring the crucifix back to the nun.

Story Mission – Fatherhood and Other Dreams (Chapter 4)
In this mission, you can increase honor by accepting Mary’s request bringing a broach back to her. If you buy the broach without violence, your honor will increase.

Story Mission – Do Not Seek Absolution (Chapter 6)
This mission requires you to be on Honor Level 4 or higher. To increase honor in this mission, you need to help Archie and Edith in this quest.

Story Mission – Mrs. Sadie Alder, Widow (Chapter 6)
In this quest, help Sadie to increase your honor rating.

Story Mission – The Course of True Love (Chapter 6)
In this mission, bring the woman to her boyfriend on the train, and refuse to take her jewelry as a payment in return. This will increase your honor.

Story Mission – A Rage Unleashed (Chapter 6)
In this quest, you can increase your honor rating by agreeing to help Rain Falls.

Story Mission – Archaeology for Beginners (Chapter 6)
In these quests, if you agree to help Monroe when he asks you during the dialogue, your honor will increase.
