Review: 39 Days To Mars – One Trip You Will Never Forget

Review 39 Days to Mars PS4

39 Days To Mars is not like your typical everyday game, it is a different, sometimes difficult and total looker. Like all other puzzle games you have to brainstorm a lot but is it all worth it? We found out in our review of 39 Days to Mars. The review was done on the Nintendo Switch in anticipation of the upcoming PS4 version of the game.

The Story

39 Days To Mars is a steampunk styled puzzle-adventure game that is set in Victorian Britain, The game’s story is about two main characters who have gotten bored of living in their old multiple-story house and have decided to take a trip to Mars together.

Everything is great until their ship breaks down, now both of Sir Albert Wickes and Clarence Baxter have to fix and prepare their ship and maintain it on the go as well. It’s the players’ job, either co-op or single play you have to work your way out to keep the ship together in one piece. Mars Awaits!

The Core Gameplay

Fixing the ship is pretty much all of this game and in order to fix your only way to Mars you get to solve various small yet often crazy puzzles the game gives you and if you fail (Which you will because it requires a handful of retries) you further damage your ship.

Both Albert and Baxter are all in with their mission of space exploration but they also know when to call out some “me time” so you will have to make them a cup of tea in between projects.

It’s a very short game – the two-player campaign lasting around an hour, give or take depending on how well you best the puzzles. But a lot is packed into that time including collecting coal on a penny-farthing and fighting off space craziness.

It Only Looks Easy

While it looks both basic and easy the puzzles are incredibly frustrating and the fact that there are no instructions or any hints from the game is quite tough, the game is somewhat difficult but the amount of satisfaction you get is way too much. it’s a total relief.

Aesthetically Pleasing

The game is very beautiful, the art style isn’t very much and it truly defines the term “The simpler the better”. The whole design and build is very adorable also at the same time it has a little gothic element to it in terms of art style as there is a lot of black and white. The Steampunk machine style is very unique and the ship has a lot of detail.

Verdict

39 Days To Mars is not a game for all tastes and those who are into such genre of puzzles are going to enjoy it. The game at times shows you how the simplest of things can turn out to be good. The gripes we have on this one is that it’s ridiculously short and players can be done with it in an hour or so. With great art style, pleasing music and tricky puzzles 39 Days To Mars is a decent game and will certainly keep you busy for quite some time.

Final Score: 7/10
