Samsung has announced a new and updated model of its Odyssey G9 monitor. The Samsung Odyssey G9 2021 monitor features the new Quantum MiniLED technology which will vastly improve the brightness levels of the display.

The Odyssey G9 2021 is a 49-inch gaming monitor and the curved monitor now uses mini-LED backlights for improved brightness and heightened contrast ratios. The monitor also has a 240 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms response times. The Odyssey G9 2021 will also have full support for AMD FreeSync Pro and NVIDIA G-SYNC.

Samsung has switched to the new Quantum MiniLED technology which greatly improves the peak brightness of the display. According to Samsung, the Odyssey G9 2021 peaks at 2,000 nits in places, while displaying HDR content. Samsung will most probably get the Odyssey G9 2021 with VESA as a DisplayHDR 1400 monitor.

The monitor also keeps some features from its previous model, such as the 1000R curvature, 240 Hz refresh rate, and 1 ms response times. The monitor only retains its 1440p QLED 1000R curved VA panel with a 240Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and support for FreeSync 2 and G-Sync variable refresh rate technologies. The Odyssey G9’s display is at 5120 x 1440 resolution (double QHD).

The Odyssey G9 2021 will have the same USB hub as the previous model. The previous model had 2x DisplayPort, HDMI, 3.5mm Audio, USB Hub, and 2x USB Type-A ports. The monitor’s full display capabilities can only be achieved through a Display Port connection. However, HDMI provides an option for consoles and other external output devices to be used. The I/O section also has a cover that snaps in and hides the cables to provide a cleaner look.

At this moment, not much all is known about the upcoming refresh of the Odyssey G9. Samsung is yet to announce all the details for the Odyssey G9 2021 though, including its price. Last year’s model launched for US$1,699. So we can expect this model to cost around this price as well.
