Shadow-Platformer SCHiM Surpasses 200K Wishlists And Announces PC & Consoles Release Date

Review SCHiM

Dutch indie developers Ewoud and Nils have announced the official release date for their critically acclaimed platformer, SCHiM. The game is set to launch on July 18th and will be available on Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch for $24.99. SCHiM has already garnered significant attention, surpassing 200,000 wishlists on Steam and attracting over 50,000 players during its recent demo at Steam Next Fest. For those who missed the demo, it is still available on Steam. Additionally, eager Nintendo Switch players can pre-order the game on the Nintendo eShop ahead of its release.

SCHiM is a unique indie game that revolves around helping a lost shadow find its way back to its human by navigating through shadows. The game challenges players to find clever ways to move around the environment, uncovering small stories and charming details hidden in the world.

Key Features of the game include:

  • A Story of a Person Losing Their Shadow: In SCHiM, a schim represents the soul and spirit of an object or living being. Every entity in the world has one, and they should never be separated. Players must find their way back to the human they belong to before it’s too late.
  • Unique 3D Platforming: Movement is restricted to shadows, requiring players to leap into the shadows of animated objects and moving beings, using them as pathways.
  • A Beautiful Abstract World: Each level features a unique color palette that captures the setting, time of day, and mood of the location being explored.
  • Each Level Has a Story to Tell: Levels are inspired by real Dutch and European cities and rural locations, each offering its own living scenery with small stories to uncover.
  • Hidden in the Shadows: SCHiM is filled with hidden items to discover. Finding these items helps other schim restore their connection to their objects.

SCHiM began as Ewoud’s exam project in early 2020 and was developed in collaboration with Nils’ Indie Game Studio Extra Nice, based in the Netherlands. What started as a unique shadow-based platforming concept quickly gained attention online, prompting a shift from a small-scale project to a full-fledged game. The game draws inspiration from Dutch and European locations and aesthetics, blending creative vision with local inspiration.
