Indie developer and publisher Asobism Co., Ltd. has officially launched ShapeHero Factory in Early Access, bringing a fresh mix of tower defense and roguelite gameplay. Available now on Steam for $18.99, with a 10% discount for the first two weeks, this title invites you to build an army of unique heroes in a charming, storybook-style setting.
In ShapeHero Factory, you must fend off The Great Calamity, an ancient evil released from the Book of Magic. Unlike traditional hero games, you do not control the characters directly. Instead, you manage a factory that shapes basic forms—squares, triangles, and circles—into brave little fighters with varied capabilities. Each wave brings stronger foes, so you need to apply strategic, top-down thinking and use unique artifacts earned through gameplay to defend against the increasing enemy threats.

The gameplay of ShapeHero Factory blends tower defense and roguelite mechanics in a very unique fashion. The factory layout is crucial, as you dictate hero movements by organizing production and placement rather than engaging in direct combat. Randomly generated artifacts and upgrades make each session distinct, adding replayability as you adjust their strategies with each run. The game’s roguelite elements mean each playthrough contributes to building up “Grand Knowledge,” a form of permanent ability progression that allows you to enhance the factory and abilities for future battles.
The game also stands out for its charming, storybook setting. Each adventure unfolds on a blank scroll spread across a tabletop, immersing you in a quaint, animated world filled with adorable minions and a whimsical aesthetic. This backdrop adds a layer of warmth to the intense strategy, grounding the gameplay in a quaint, enchanting environment that emphasizes the game’s distinctive visual appeal.
ShapeHero Factory is now available in Early Access on PC via Steam for $18.99. If you are interested in trying it out, you can head over to its official Steam page and jump into the game straight away or add it to your wishlist if you prefer to get it sometime later. The further development of the game will continue according to player feedback. For the first two weeks of its launch, the developer is offering a 10% discount to early buyers as well.
