Yacht Club has announced that the upcoming Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove update and amiibo has been delayed for some time. A new release date has not been announced at this point but the developer promises that the delay is not a long one.
The update and the amiibo was originally planned for an April 9, 2019 release but has now been delayed for several months. The developer announced this news via their official blog stating that it is ‘not a major delay’ and a new release date will be announced soon when everything is ready to go.
The planned physical release of Shovel Knight which was supposed to come out with the update have also been delayed at this point. Treasure Trove is a big update for Shovel Knight and it adds the brand new story-focused expansion King of Cards to the game along with new multiplayer-focused Showdown mode as well.
The physical editions were announced for PS4 and Nintendo Switch along with a Treasure Trove amiibo 3-pack. The release date for all this content was April 9, 2019 but it seems now that we have to wait for several months before it finally comes out. In their blog post, the developer also says to not believe the store release dates. Final date will be announced by them later.
Yacht Club is calling this delay ‘One Last Delay’ which means that after this there will be no further delays before the game comes out. Their official comment on their blog states
We have only a bit more work left to do on completing King of Cards and Showdown. The two, brand new, complete games coming to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. It remains our focus to bring these to the highest level of quality just as we have with previous Shovel Knight games. It’s also our priority to have these games on the disc/card for the upcoming physical version. We need a little more time to make this happen, and so we are pushing the release back one last time. We’re still aiming to release everything at once, so this this delay applies to everything: physical editions, digital update, and Treasure Trove amiibo 3-pack.
About the new release date, their words are
We estimate several months– at most! This is not a major delay so much as more space to bring everything together for a polished and complete finale. As always, these last steps require coordination with many teams beyond our own.
