SEGA has announced that Sonic Prime, the Netflix show based on Sonic the Hedgehog, will premiere worldwide tomorrow, December 15, 2022. The first season of Sonic Prime will feature 8 episodes and it will feature the Blue Blur in a high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his hands. Apart from this, SEGA has also revealed that Sonic Frontiers has managed to sell over 2.5 million copies worldwide after its global debut on November 8, 2022.
Coming back to the show, the new Netflix show Sonic Prime is aimed at a diverse audience including kids, families, and long-time Sonic fans. The very first season has 8 episodes and will feature the high-octane adventure of Sonic and his friends. The show has been co-produced with WildBrain and the studio’s Vancouver setup will animate the show. WildBrain will jointly participate in production, distribution, and licensing. Fans will be glad to know that Man of Action Entertainment, creators of Ben 10, and the characters and team in the Academy Award-winning feature Big Hero 6 have also been brought on as showrunners and Executive Producers for the series.
SEGA has also announced that it will release multiple free Sonic Frontiers DLC that will add many new elements such as playable characters, modes, and costumes to the game. The very first DLC for Sonic Frontiers, Sonic’s Holiday Cheer Costume is slated for release on December 21, 2022. SEGA has shared the detailed roadmap showcasing all of the content coming to the title in the coming months.
SEGA is aiming to expand its Sonic franchise even more in the coming years and the recent open-world Sonic title Sonic Frontiers and the new Netflix animated series Sonic Prime along with Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog films are clear examples of what SEGA has in mind for franchise.
