So far the controller game ball is completely in Xbox’s court with its Elite Series 1 and Series 2 controllers. They are our personal favorite at GamesHedge as well. To up its own controller game, Sony has announced a brand new Back Button Attachment for its Dualshock 4 which will go on sale next year. The new attachment will provide players two customizable back buttons similar to those found on the Xbox Elite Series controllers.
Sony claims that the new attachment will benefit players of all skill levels who play online competitively. The additional back buttons will allow them more versatility and performance and will not compromise on the comfort and feel of the Dualshock 4 controller. Both buttons are programmable and players can assign any task to these buttons according to their own playing style giving them an edge over the normal Dualshock 4 player. We don’t know about how practical it will be however Sony has made sure that it looks pretty.
According to Sony’s official press release, the Back Button Attachment comes with the following features:
- Responsive Back Buttons and High-fidelity OLED Screen: The two back buttons can map up to 16 different actions such as triangle, circle, R1, and R2 to name a few and provide amazing tactile feedback, so you can jump and slide without missing a beat. The attachment also features an integrated OLED display that provides real-time information around button assignments.
- Highly Configurable: A dedicated button allows you to remap back button inputs on the fly, so you are always prepared no matter what game you’re playing. Furthermore, you can save and choose up to three different profiles for use in various games and there is also a headset pass-through for connecting any 3.5mm wired headset to the controller.
- Developed by PlayStation: The product is tested and approved for all of your favorite PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR titles and is built with the ergonomics of the DS4 in mind.
The Back Button Attachment is slated for release in the US and Canada on January 23, 2019. It will set you back $29.99 US dollars and $39.99 Canadian dollars. The price sure looks premium and the attachment looks pretty cool as well. It fits in the current audio jack of the Dualshock 4 however it comes with its own audio jack so you can plug in your headsets directly to the attachment.
