Rumor Says Sony Paid Heavily for GTA 6 PlayStation 5 Exclusivity

Sony GTA 6

In the past few months, rumors about Grand Theft Auto 6 have been circulating around the internet. Now there are rumors that claim Sony has paid heavily for GTA 6 to come launch as a PlayStation 5 exclusive for the first month after launch.

This would mean that Xbox will not be getting the game until a month later. Rockstar Games has always been known for being secretive, so it puts everyone in a position where nothing can be confirmed or denied.

Last week, a few sources that have anonymously claimed to be a third party small developer in Europe, had claimed on Pastebin that Rockstar Games’ upcoming title in the GTA franchise would be released in the holiday season of 2020.

Rockstar Games has always been known for being secretive, so it puts everyone in a position where nothing can be confirmed nor denied.

But of course, these are just rumors and if Sony has in fact made such deal, it would be absolutely massive from a marketing perspective. The anonymous developer also said that the game will take place in two cities – Miami and New York City.

All this information should be taken with a grain of salt as not only is this an anonymous leak, the details also seem a bit dubious to say the least. Previously, a rumor suggested that the game will be coming out on 2022, and will take place in Miami and South America.

In addition, Rockstar has just released Red Dead Redemption 2 last year in October, meaning that if GTA 6 does come around in the holiday season of 2020, the developer would have done that in 2 years, which is a tall ask.

Meanwhile, publisher Take-Two Interactive would also not be interested to sacrifice the fan base on the Xbox for any sort of money. Risking a big backlash from Xbox gamers for money would certainly seem senseless.

All things said, and even if these are rumors, Rockstar Games have not commented on any of the rumors since. There is a slight chance this can be correct, or at least some of the information may be correct. However, that is still to be seen. We do advice fans to take this rumor with a lot of skepticism.

Do you think the rumors could be true? Would the game be a timed PS5 exclusive game? Will it really come out next year? What do you think? Post your comments below.
