Publisher Thunderful and developer The Station have announced that they are heading to gamescom 2023 later this month with SteamWorld Build. SteamWorld Build will be playable at gamescom 2023, making it the very first time the game to be playable for the general public ever. If you are heading to gamescom later this month, you will find SteamWorld Build at the Official Xbox booth at gamescom from August 23 to 27, 2023. Check out the latest trailer for the game which was released back in June during the Summer Games Festival.
SteamWorld Build has been developed for PC and consoles simultaneously which means that every aspect of the game has been designed to ensure that it manages to deliver the exact same experience with a controller in hand as it does with a mouse and keyboard. This will allow the developers to bring a traditionally PC-centric genre to console without compromise. This is the very reason why Thunderful is bringing the Xbox version of SteamWorld Build to gamescom 2023.
At the event, players will be able to find out just how well SteamWorld Build works on a controller first-hand at the Official Xbox booth. In SteamWorld Build, you are the architect of a SteamWorld mining town as you will break ground and raise houses for your steamboat citizens. You will need to keep them fed and provide some rootin’-tootin’ entertainment for them as well. Right underneath your town, an abandoned mine is sitting and you will venture into it to find ancient tech that holds the key to escaping impending doom.
You will collect natural resources above the ground and dig out the ores buried below to expand your town, stimulate new residential tiers to join the quest to dig deeper, and unearth untold riches to finally help your citizens to hightail it off the planet. The game’s above and below-ground elements have an interdependent relationship with each other as every time you discover something, mine something, or build something, it feeds into what you can do when you switch from above to below and vice versa. All of this combines together to deliver an experience that is satisfying and makes you feel like making progress.
Adam Vassee, producer at The Station comments:
We’re really excited to see you all at gamescom. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get this game in the hands of players and let them discover this next entry in an award-winning franchise for themselves.
