Falco Detailed Guide – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Falco Guide details everything that you need to know about Falco in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Introduction
When compared with other fighters from the Star Fox franchise, Falco sits in the middle of Wolf and Fox when it comes to speed. He relies heavily on combos to deal damage to enemies. He excels at waiting and then following up attacks with massive damage to his enemies. Most of his combos on their own do not deal too much damage but when combined with other combos, the damage count is above the mark at the end.
Falco’s attacks are also fast with some attacks landing really quickly on the enemies giving them less time to react or shield. Falco also excels at recovery moves which can really help him get back to the stage even from the toughest of the situations in the game. He can also wall jump and his normal jump is also the highest than any other character in the game.
Attacks
We have detailed Falco’s moves below.
Grounded Attacks
This section of the guide details everything that you need to know about Falco’s attacks while he is grounded.
Neutral Attacks
Falco’s neutral attack is a three hit combo with the last hit launching enemies in the air. The first two hits will deal 1.5 damage each while the last attack will deal 0.3xnumber of hits and 3 damage as the finisher. Falco starts with two slaps on the enemies, followed by a series of wind-based quick attacks. The final attack ends the combo and launches the enemies in the air.
The range of this attack is not too great but the starting speed is very high. The second hit of the combo has increased range but if shielded, the whole combo is wasted and Falco is vulnerable to any of the attacks your enemy wants to land at that point. You can however counter their shield attack and then move to the third attack and take them to the air if you are quick enough.
Dash Attack
Falco’s Dash attack deals 9 damage to enemies. For this attack, Falco will dash at the enemy which his leg outstretched and will deliver a heavy flying side kick. This kick will drive them diagonally into the air and set them up for a nice juggle combo. The launch distance is not that high so stick to juggling combos instead of follow-up combos.
Defensive Attacks
Falco’s Ledge attack deals 9 damage while Wake-up attack will deal 7 damage.
Tilts
Falco has three Tilts and we have detailed them below.
Side Tilt
It deals 6 damage. This is a powerful kick attack that will stagger the enemies. You can set the angle of the attack by using the control stick. You can pick to hit your enemy’s head or feet. Side Tilt does not allow you to transition into a follow up combo so this is just a single attack but quite a good one for its own.
Up Tilt
It deals 3.5 and 4 damage. Falco will slash the air above him in two quick moves of his arms. The arc for this attack is pretty wide. The first hit will push the enemy into the second hit. This will launch the enemies in the air above Falco and this allowing you to follow up with a juggle combo. It is a pretty quick attack.
Down Tilt
It deals 13 damage. For this attack, Falco will crouch and sweep the ground with his tail to launch enemies in the air. This will allow you to follow them up with a combo. This attack is also not that harmful if your enemies shield it because Falco will be bent down and will easily block most of the attacks.
Smash Attacks
Falco has three Smash Attacks. We have detailed them below.
Side Smash
It deals 16 attack. Falco will bend backwards for a second and them come back forward with a powerful thrust attack with his wings stretched at the front. Falco will swing his wings in a powerful slash which will damage any enemies caught in the attack. This attack is very slow to land but the damage output is very impressive.
This attack is super effective near ledges. If the enemy shields the attack, you will be vulnerable for an attack in retaliation. The best time to use this attack is as soon as your enemies grab the ledge. The attack’s range is also decent. Just make sure that you the initial lag in mind while using this attack.
Up Smash
It deals 4 and 13 damage to enemies. For this attack, Falco will perform a double kick which will arc in the front and above Falco. The first kick is good for knocking out enemies while the second will send the enemies flying in the air. This attack has very good range and the damage dealt to them is also decent if you manage to land the full combo. The recovery time from this attack is pretty high.
Down Smash
It deals 15 damage to enemies. Falco will jump in the air and come crashing down to the ground with one of his legs outstretched in front of him and one behind him. This covers both front and the back of Falco. This is excellent for clearing out enemies near Falco. The speed of this attack is fast as well.
Grabs
Falco’s normal grab attack will deal 1.3 damage. Throwing them forward will deal 7 damage and throwing them back will deal 9 damage. If you throw them up, they will receive 8 damage and throwing them down will deal them 5 damage. Falco grabs the enemies from the collar and them throws them in the direction where you want him to throw.
Up throw is good for juggling enemies in the air while the back throw deals most damage if you simply want to throw the enemies for damage. The best throw for Falco is up because you can later follow up with different combos and keep them jiggling in the air. During the throws, enemies can shuffle to escape the follow up combos.
Aerial Attacks
Falco can perform the following attacks while he is in the air.
Neutral Air Attack
It deals 3,2,2 and 4 damage. This is a powerful spin attack during which the enemies in contact could be hit for at least four times. The first and the last hit deal most damage in the combo. You can use this as a standalone combo or in the middle of other combos as well. The recovery time from this attack is also low.
Forward Air Attack
It deals 1×5 and 4 damage to enemies. Falco will turn into a bullet in the air and come beak first spinning like a drill towards the enemies and hit them multiple times before knocking them back with a finisher. Upon landing, Falco will unleash another attack that will send enemies flying in the air which you can follow with some combos or juggle them in the air. It is also excellent for using against enemies spamming shields.
Back Air Attack
It deals 13 damage to enemies. Falco will use his leg to deliver a powerful kick behind him while in the air. You can hit enemies in the air or on the ground with this attack. The recovery time is also pretty low for this attack so you can perform more than one such attacks in the same jump.
Up Air Attack
It deals 9 damage to enemies. For this attack, Falco will deliver a powerful somersault kick in the air above him. This will arc from back to the front and hitting enemies at the back, above and forward. This is a very aggressive attack and starts pretty quickly allowing you to use it pretty often to deal some quick damage to enemies. The angle is also very good and the coverage is insane in three directions.
Down Air Attack
It deals 13 damage to enemies. Falco will spin like a drill with his both legs closed with each other and come to the ground in a powerful slam. Enemies hit in the air will be knocked down to the ground. It will hit one enemy only once and is excellent for throwing players off the stage. On landing, a powerful smash attack will launch enemies in the air allowing you to follow up with a powerful combo.
Special Attacks
Falco can perform four Special attacks. We have detailed them below.
Neutral Special – Blaster
It deals 3 damage. You can repeatedly press the button to continue firing with the blaster. In the air, the firing speed is much higher than that on the ground. Falco will quickly fire from his gun and enemies hit by the bullets will be stopped if they are coming towards you. These gun shots are not very devastating.
You can launch as many as you like if you keep hitting the button. The initial animations are also long and you will be vulnerable during this time. Time this right if you really want to use Falco’s gun. Other than decent range, we do not find any other good thing about this attack. If you see someone recovering off stage, this is the perfect weapon to harass them.
Side Special – Falco Phantasm
It deals 7 damage. Falco will take a little time to charge up and then lunge at the enemies at his front at very fast speed. He will leave in his path phantasms which will damage all enemies who hit them and launch them in the air. After the attack, Falco will need time to recover if it is done in the air because he will fall down to the ground after the attack has finished.
On the ground, this recovery time is much lower. During this attack, Falco can be hit and this will cause him to stop running. If you up against a good player, he will try to exploit this move by trying to hit you as you run leaving behind phantasms. In the air, you will have some recovery time but on the ground it is a safe bet.
Up Special – Firebird
It deals 2×7, 3 and 2×8 damage to enemies. Falco will engulf himself in flames and rise in the air above him in a furious attack. This will burn the enemies and you can aim in any direction using the control stick. You can set the direction while in the charging phase.
This is an excellent recovery move as well. Once the attack ends, you are left in the middle of the stage falling down helpless to the ground. This is a high-risk, high-damage attack because the initial charge takes some time to launch the attack but the damage output is very satisfying. Just don’t aim at the ground and fire.
Down Special – Reflector
This is not an offensive move but rather a defensive move but since Falco will use his Reflector device to fling back projectiles to enemies with an added 20% damage to them. Once used, Falco will throw the Reflector device in front of him and it will hit the enemy and come back to him. This works in the form of a boomerang. This is a great defensive move if you are cornered in the stage as the device will extend a hitbox in front of Falco.
Final Smash – Team Star Fox
Once the Final Smash meter is full, you can land Falco’s ultimate attack called Team Star Fox. Falco will lock on enemies in front of him and once the lock is set, several Arwings will spawn in the stage and start firing at the enemy for massive damage.
