Ganondorf Detailed Guide – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Ganondorf Guide details everything that you need to know about Ganondorf in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Introduction

The most notable difference with Ganondorf in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is his new sword that he will be using in different attacks. Most of his attacks are slow but powerful single hits. Not all of his attacks are slow as some of his attacks are much faster as compared to the rest of his attack arsenal.

Most of his powerful attacks are slow and the recovery time is high but the damage dealt with them is pretty high. You will need to time the attacks right if you want to land these high power slow attacks. Agile fighters can easily dodge the attacks right under his nose but if caught in the hitbox, they will get seriously damaged.

Attacks

We have detailed Ganondorf’s moves below.

Grounded Attacks

We have detailed all of Ganondorf’s ground attacks below.

Neutral Attacks

Ganondorf has only one hit neutral attack which deals massive 11 damage and can knock enemies away as well easily. This is a very powerful electrical punch attack. There is no combo here but only a single hit attack. This is also the fastest attack he can land. The damage output for this one hit is greater than many fighters’ combos.

This attack is so high that it will fly over smaller or crouching enemies. This makes it a useless attack in these cases. Instead, you can grab them and then use this attack when they can actually be hit with your punch.

Dash Attack

Ganondorf’s Dash attack deals 15 damage and can even set them up for follow-up juggle combos if hit early with the attack. Ganondorf will charge into the enemies with one powerful shoulder charge. Although the attack lasts a good amount of time, damage is highest during the early phases of the attack.

The longer the charge has passed, less damage will be dealt to the enemies. This attack is also much slower than Dash attacks of other fighters but it packs quite a punch. Even if enemies block this attack, Ganondorf will pass through them. Does not work too well against shields.

Defensive Attacks

Ganondorf’s ledge attack deals 10 damage while both faceup and facedown Wake-up attacks deal 7 damage each.

Tilts

Ganondorf can perform three Tilt attacks. We have detailed them below.

Side Tilt

It deals 14 damage. Enemies are knocked back. Ganondorf will use his leg to deliver a powerful kick right in front of him. The highest damage of this attack is based at the foot. This attack can be shielded by enemies which will leave Ganondorf in a very vulnerable position. Even if enemies shield the attack, try to land the foot on them so that the push back keeps you in a safe position.

Up Tilt

It deals 24 damage. This is a devastating attack that can even shatter shields and launch the enemies away. During this attack, Ganondorf will lift his leg in the air and begin charging up the attack. During this phase, enemies coming close to the leg in the air will be sucked in towards Ganondorf.

Once the charge is complete, Ganondorf will land a powerful blow to the ground which will deal massive damage to enemies around him and sucked in. If someone shields the attack, the shield will be broken with one fully charged hit of this attack.

Down Tilt

It deals 14 damage. This is a good attack for setting up enemies in a juggle position. For this attack, Ganondorf will crouch and use one leg to land a powerful low attack in his front. Enemies who are hit by this attack will be launched in the air after getting hit. You can possible land another hit once the enemies are in the air considering the fact that Ganondorf is very slow in his attacks.

Smash Attacks

Ganondorf has three smash attacks and we have detailed them below.

Side Smash

It deals 24-33.6 damage. For this attack, Ganondorf will use his huge greatsword and land a powerful hit right in front of him. The attack will start above him and go all the way down to the ground in the form of an arc.

This is a much faster attack and enemies hit by the attack are knocked in the air. You can charge the attack to increase the damage it deals with the hit. However, enemies can block the attack and counterattack. If they use shied, shield is damaged massively.

Up Smash

It deals 24-33.6 damage. Ganondorf will perform a massive air attack above his head in the form of an arc. The attack will begin at the front and go all the way to his back. Enemies hit by the attack will be knocked back and in the air allowing you to juggle them. This attack has a huge range allowing you to deal damage to anyone around you. If blocked, enemies can strike back.

Down Smash

It deals 5, 15-7 and 21 damage to enemies. This attack covers both sides of Ganondorf. Enemies hit at the front will be sent to the back where another kick will ensure that they are knocked even further back. This time, Ganondorf will attack with the hilt of the sword in front of him making enemies fly in the air and over Ganondorf’s shoulder.

The front hit does not deal too much damage but the back attack with the sword deals massive damage. Also enemies can be sent flying after the powerful hit and they could be thrown outside the arena.

Grabs

Ganondorf’s normal grab attack will deal 1.6 damage while his front throw will deal 5.8 damage and Back throw 5×2 damage. Up throw deals 10 and 3 damage while the Down throw deals 7 damage.

Most of Ganondorf’s throws can slam enemies into other enemies thus increasing the throw damages. His grab range is also good and the power of throwing them away is intense.

Aerial Attacks

Ganondorf has the following attacks while he is in the air.

Neutral Air Attack

It deals 7 and 12 damage. Ganondorf will strike in the air with two powerful kicks landing them back to back. Both kicks have maximum damage and knockback early in the attack. The second kick packs more punch and it also lasts longer than the first one. If you time other attacks right, you can minimize the recovery time from this attack.

Forward Air Attack

It deals 18 damage. Ganondorf will land a powerful jump smash attack to the enemies in front of him. The punch will come down from above in the form of an arc and can hit both jumping and grounded enemies.

Back Air Attack

It deals 18.5 damage. In the air, Ganondorf will turn around and use his powerful fist to land a powerful punch. This attack deals a lot of damage but it is short and the hitbox is smaller as well so all the damage focus on the fist.

Up Air Attack

It deals 13 damage. Ganondorf will launch a powerful spin kick which spins for 180 degrees. The attacks starts at the front and goes all the way to the back. This is not a very powerful attack when compared to other attacks but it is much faster than most of Ganondorf’s attacks.

Down Air Attack

It deals 19 damage. Ganondorf will come down to the earth in a powerful stomping attack and hitting enemies like a spike. This attack requires precision and perfect timing otherwise your attack will be wasted. This attack is also slower which makes this attack even more of a risk.

Special Attacks

Ganondorf has four special attacks and we have detailed them below.

Neutral Special Attack – Warlock Punch

It deals 30 damage and 37 damage when turned. Ganondorf will gather Dark Energy for some time in his fist and then finally unleash a powerful punch directly ahead. Ganondorf needs a lot of charging time for this attack but given the damage output, if you manage to land this attack, it will deal massive damage to enemies.

This attack can be landed early as well but the damage output will not be too good making it not worthwhile so if you plan on using this attack, go big or don’t use this attack at all because the initial charge time is still longer than any of his other attacks.

Side Special Attack – Flame Choke

It deals 12 damage on the ground and 15 damage in the air. For this attack, Ganondorf will rush into the enemies straight ahead with massive force. Enemies coming in contact with him will be grabbed by Ganondorf and hitting them with a massive flaming body slam.

This attack is more powerful is performed in the air rather than the ground. If you grab someone and take them off the stage, Ganondorf will be KO’s first making this a futile move to try and KO opponents with. This is good only for landing on the stage rather than off it.

Up Special – Dark Dive

It deals 1.9×4 and 9 damage to enemies. For this attack, Ganondorf will rise in the air his fist filled with Dark Power. If an enemy comes in his path, Ganondorf will grab them and bounce off them with immense power forcing them to fly off in the distance.

This attack is only useful if you manage to grab someone. If you miss, enemies will not be too lenient with you. You can only attack again once you reach back at the ground. This is a good recovery attack.

Down Special – Wizard’s Foot

It deals 16 damage on the ground, 15 in the air and 8 if you land on the ground from the air. You can perform this powerful attack both in the ground and in the air. Damage will vary for both attacks and since the attack has a longer duration, you can glide to the ground if started in the air. For this attack, Ganondorf will slide on his heel and move forward filled with Dark Power.

This could be called a sliding dash attack as well. Be careful because if you slide off the edge, you will continue going down and not stop like other characters who stop when then reach the edge of the stage while performing a slide. You can also reverse the move by choosing the directing in the initial phase of the attack.

Final Smash – Ganon, The Demon King

For his Final Smash, Ganondorf will show his true form and become huge in size. He will draw out two big swords and smash them on the ground in front of him. After smashing the swords, he will start running at the enemies in a powerful charge attack knocking them off and dealing massive damage.
