Ike Detailed Guide – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Ike Guide details everything that you need to know about Ike in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Introduction
Ike is a heavyweight fighter so naturally he is slow to land his attacks. He comes with his long reach Ragnell Sword which is a powerful weapon but it is slow. Ike’s attacks are very powerful but they suffer from long recovery times which is one of Ike’s biggest weakness. You will need to make sure that after initiating an attack, you will need to make sure that is lands on your enemies.
If you make a space miscalculation error while landing attacks or hitting enemies, you will left in a very vulnerable position where you will be able to do nothing but sit there and watch your opponents land combos on your fighter. Ike is a simple fighter but timing is very important with him and you want to make sure that you land your attacks. Ike is not as agile as other sword wielders in the game.
Attacks
We have detailed Ike’s moves below.
Grounded Attacks
We have detailed all of Ike’s attacks which can be performed while he is on the ground below.
Neutral Attacks
Ike’s neutral attack combo has three hits. First two hits will deal 2.5 damage while the last attack deals 5 damage while launching the enemies away from Ike. Ike will start this attack with a punch, follow up with a kick and then end the combo with a powerful sword attack. This will knock the enemies back.
This is a much faster attack and has a low recovery time as well. You can use attack to land some quick attacks on your enemies. If someone misses an attack on you, this is the perfect way land back some attacks on them.
Dash Attack
Ike’s Dash attack will deal 14 damage to enemies. This is a solid damage dealing dash attack and it also launches enemies into the air setting them up for a follow up attack. The damage of this attack is good but if you miss it, you will get some combos on yourself in no time because you cannot counter anything until you come back into the normal stance.
Defensive Attacks
Ike’s Ledge attack will deal 10 damage while his wake up attack will deal 7 damage.
Tilts
Ike can land three Tilt attacks. We have detailed them below.
Side Tilt
It deals 13.5 damage. This is a powerful sword slash attack that will knock back enemies and deal good amount of damage to them. This attack is good for counterattacking enemies who miss their attacks on you. If someone is recovering, this is good against them as well because they will not be able to dodge out of its way.
Up Tilt
It deals 12 damage to enemies. Ike will jump in the air and raise his sword over his head to knock down any enemies coming at him from the air. The attack can hit enemies for its entire animation where it starts from the back and goes to the top and it is one of Ike’s most powerful air attacks.
Down Tilt
It deals 8 damage. For this attack, Ike will bend down and use his sword to attack the feet of the enemies with a quick sweep with his sword. This will launch them above slightly and you will need a little time to get back up which makes it difficult to follow up with an attack.
Smash Attacks
Ike has three Smash attacks which are detailed below.
Side Smash
It deals 22 damage. This is a powerful slam attack as Ike will grab Ragnell in both his hands, jump and then land the sword with a powerful smash in front of him smashing enemies away from him. For this attack, you will need to perfectly time it right and make sure that the enemy is right in front of Ike for maximum effectiveness.
Up Smash
It deals 17 damage. This attack will take some time to land but once in the air, Ike will use his sword and land a powerful upward slash knocking away enemies it by it. The attack will cover, front, up and back sides of Ike which makes it a powerful attack. If you miss this attack, get ready to receive some hits in return.
Down Smash
It deals 16 damage. For this attack, Ike will crouch and then land two powerful attacks with his sword at the front. The first sweeping attack will be aimed forward while the second one will be aimed backwards This is an excellent attack to clear out enemies around Ike. The attack on the rear is also more powerful than on the front.
Grabs
Ike’s normal grab will deal 1.6 damage to enemies. Throwing them at the front, up or down will deal enemies 7.5 damage while throwing them back will deal 7 damage to enemies. Ike’s grabbing speed is not too special because his right arm has the sword in it making Ike grab with his left arm. You can throw them up and land another combo after following them up.
Aerial Attacks
Below we have detailed all of Ike’s aerial attacks. These attacks are limited to air only.
Neutral Air Attack
It deals 7.5 damage. For this attack, Ike will jump and perform a powerful sword attack by spinning it around himself. This is a great coverage attack and it covers nearly all directions around Ike. This is Ike’s best aerial attack when it comes to speed and damage dealt as well as coverage is concerned. This attack sets up enemies nicely for follow up combos.
Forward Air Attack
It deals 11.5 damage. Ike will grab Ragnell with both his hands, and perform a powerful sword slash in front of himself. The slash will deal damage from the top to the bottom of the arc. This is a great attack if you want deal some damage to enemies above or in front of you. Enemies behind are not hit by this attack. It also does knockback damage to enemies.
Back Air Attack
It deals 14 damage. In the air, Ike will turn around and land a powerful sword attack at his back. Enemies hit by the sword hit will be knocked down. This is Ike’s fastest attacks and does decent damage to enemies as well. It does not have a lot of range so you will need to be close to enemies to actually hit them with this attack.
Up Air Attack
It deals 11 damage. Ike will slash the air above himself with his sword which will launch all enemies above Ike into the air even further. This attack is purely anti-air and it deals damage to enemies above Ike. Enemies at the front or back are not damaged by this attack. This attack is good for launching enemies in the air above for possible juggle combos.
Down Air Attack
It deals 15 damage. With this attack, Ike will land on his enemies in one powerful sword smash above their heads. This attack is not very fast but when Ike is coming down, enemies who come in the way will be knocked away with a meteor smash effect. This is a good attack if you want to keep enemies off the ledge or stop them from recovering.
Special Moves
Ike has four special attacks and we have detailed them below.
Neutral Special Attack – Eruption
It deals 10 damage in normal mode and 35 damage when it is fully charged. Ike will slam his sword into the ground to create a massive shockwave coming out of the ground around him. Hold the button to charge the attack and increase the damage dealt to enemies.
As you charge more, increased pillars of the powerful shockwave are created when you release the attack. If you power up the attack to its full, the attack will also have a massive knockback effect. This attack is excellent to prevent recovering enemies to come back on the ledge and grabbing it.
Side Special – Quick Draw
It deals 6 damage in normal mode and 13 damage when it is fully charged. For this attack, Ike will charge at the enemies in front and land a powerful sword slash attack at them. You can use this attack as a recovery tool as well.
The recovery time from this attack is much higher and you will need to land on solid ground if you miss it. You can charge the attack initially to increase the damage dealt to enemies.
Up Special – Aether
It deals 6, 1, 1, 3 and 6 damage. This attack comprises of multiple hits and the final hit is powerful enough to launch the enemies in the air and away from enemies. Ike will throw his sword in the air spinning and with it an enemy which will be hit continuously with the sword.
After some time, Ike will jump up as well and grab the sword and bring the enemy down to the ground in one powerful smash, this attack might look like very a super effective attack but we recommend that you do not span this attack because the recovery time is pretty long and if caught off guard, you will be engaged in some unfriendly combos.
Down Special – Counter
It deals 1.2x damage to enemies. For this attack, all the damage dealt to enemies is based on the amount of damage the enemy was about to deal to you. Ike will block an enemy’s attack and then send back the damage in a powerful move that adds extra damage to the attack as well. This means that stronger the attack coming your way, greater the amount of damage you send back at your enemies.
Final Smash – Great Aether
When you unleash the Final Smash, Ike will launch the enemies in the air where he will keep hitting them with different attacks. At the end, he will finally slam the enemies down to the ground with a mighty blow. Initially, you must get close to enemies because the range is not too high.
