Inkling Detailed Guide – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Inkling Guide details everything that you need to know about Inkling in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Introduction
Both Squid girl and boy from Splatoon franchise are in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. They will use the same ink tactics and their unique weapons from the game for their own advantage. They are able to splatter their enemies with ink but just like the real game, their ink is not unlimited and both will eventually run out of ink unless you let it charge.
If you run out of ink, simply press the Special and Shield button to charge it back up. Keep an eye on your portrait where your ink level is displayed. Spraying ink on your enemies is a great attack because it reduces their defense stats. Inkling’s both with ink and without ink attacks are powerful so it does not really matter if you run out of ink and are unable to charge it for some time.
Inkling can crouch walk and wall jump as well making them agile fighters in the game. You will need to be very careful with Inkling because if they are soaked in water, they start taking damage. Keep them away from water. Apart from that, keep your ink stacks high and you should be good to go. If you land some ink attacks without ink, they will not be very effective.
In the guide below, we will be referring to Inkling girl and boy as simply ‘Inkling’. They may look different but their attacks and moves are all the same to each other.
Attacks
We have detailed Inkling’s moves below.
Grounded Attacks
We have detailed Inkling’s ground attacks below.
Neutral Attack
Inkling’s Neutral attack is a combo of four attacks. The first two hits will land 2 damage to enemies while the third hit will deal 3.5 damage to enemies. The last attack will knock the enemies away and you can hold the buttons to make Inkling repeat the attack with continuous hits before you land the final hit on your enemies. The final shot will also consume around 2/150 ink per hit.
Inkling will start the combo with a fist jab and then follow up with two kicks. The final kick will knock the enemies away. However, if you hold the attack button after the second kick, Inkling will land an alternate attack on enemies which will continue hitting them for at least eight shots. This will also spray ink on them making their defense weak.
Dash Attack
Inkling’s Dash attack deals 8 damage to enemies. If you manage to hit enemies earlier in the dash, you will deal more damage and knockback to enemies. Inkling will dash at the enemies and strike them with a powerful elbow hit. This attack sets up enemies nicely to follow up with a juggle attack.
Defensive Attacks
Inkling’s Ledge attack deals 9 damage while wake up attack will 7 damage.
Tilts
Inkling can perform three Tilt attacks. We have detailed them below.
Side Tilt
It deals 9 damage and will launch enemies in the air. For this attack, Inkling will swing the ink shooter like a melee weapon in front dealing damage to enemies. This is a powerful attack and can move past most enemy attacks since the shooter is intangible. If someone shields this attack, Inkling will be left vulnerable.
Up Tilt
It deals 6 damage and will set up enemies to follow with a juggle combo. Inkling will jump in the air above landing a powerful bicycle kick attack. The recovery time is low so you can land this attack multiple times on enemies before following up with some other combos. Each time you hit them, enemies will be sent further high in the air above the Inkling. This attack might miss smaller enemies at the front.
Down Tilt
It deals 3 and 6 damage since this is a two hit combo attack. The second hit will also launch enemies away from the Inkling. Inkling will drop down and perform a quick breakdance move while kicking enemies twice. The second hit deals more damage along with launching enemies in the air.
You can use the second hit to prevent enemies from grabbing ledges. If shielded, this attack can leave you vulnerable to enemy attacks. However, if the enemy stops using shield after the first attack, they will be launched in the air with the second kick.
Smash Attacks
Inkling comes with three powerful Smash attacks. Each of the three attacks can also be performed while you are low on ink but their damage will differ. We have detailed them below.
Side Smash
This attack will deal 16-22.4 damage to enemies however if performed without ink, this will be reduced to 12-16.8. Inkling will grab an inkbrush and swing it fiercely in its front to deal massive damage to enemies. The damage dealt to enemies will differ depending on whether you charge the attack with ink or not. The maximum ink is at the tip of the brush.
Up Smash
This attack will deal 4, 15-5.6, 21 damage to enemies however if performed without ink, this will be reduced to 4, 10-5.6, 14. For this attack, Inkling will whip out the blaster and aim it up. Once up, the blaster will explode in a big explosion sending ink all around the Inkling. The attack will deal damage to enemies at the front as well when Inkling is aiming the blaster upwards.
Down Smash
This attack will deal 12.5 damage at the front and 11 damage at the back for the first hit and 17.5 damage at the front and 15.4 damage for the second hit. If performed without ink, this will be lowered to 10 front, 9 back and 14 front, 12.6 back.
For this attack, Inkling will take out the handy slosher and splat ink all over enemies standing both in front and the back. This is a great attack if you want to clear out the enemies around the Inkling from both sides. This is one of the best crowd control attacks in the game.
Grab Attacks
Inkling’s normal grab attack will deal 1.3 damage to enemies. When thrown at the Front, they will get 5 and 3 damage. If low on ink, this is reduced to 3. Throwing them at the back will deal 9 damage. Up throw will deal 3×2 damage and set them up for a nice follow up juggle combo.
Down throw will deal a solid 7 damage and leave them bouncing for more attacks. The grab range is quite low so you will need to be up close with enemies in order to grab them. Throwing enemies at the front will also paste them along with any other enemies standing in your front dealing damage to them as well.
The back throw deals most damage to enemies and you can use it to KO enemies easily. If you want to set up enemies for follow up combos, Up and Down throws are your best friend.
Aerial Attacks
Inkling comes with their own unique air attacks which are detailed in this section of the guide.
Neutral Air Attack
It deals 7 damage to enemies. For this attack, Inkling will land a powerful spin kick in the air. This is a short attack but it deals a decent amount of damage to enemies so it is not all useless. This attack is also a dual-sided which could work well in certain situations.
Forward Air Attack
It deals 12 damage to enemies. Inkling will lunge at the enemies standing in the front with both legs outstretched and will land a powerful kick on them. This attack is pretty long and you can make good progress with it to reach enemies. If you hit enemies early, they will get most damage. As you continue, the damage is slightly reduced.
Back Air Attack
This attack will deal 10 damage to enemies. Inkling will swing the shooter to their back where it will hit enemies with a powerful melee attack. This is a very quick attack and cannot be interrupted since the shooter in intangible. However, you will need to time the attack right if you want to hit enemies with it.
Up Air Attack
This attack deals 4.5 and 6.5 damage to enemies. For this attack, Inkling will jump in the air and land a powerful two kick combo. This double attack is slower but it will launch enemies more in the air. The recovery time for this attack is higher which makes it a little difficult to follow up with more combos.
Down Air Attack
This attack will deal 12 damage to enemies. For this attack, Inkling will drop down to the ground with his shooter facing down in a powerful swing while coming down to the ground. The attack needs time to land so make sure that you time is right. Enemies hit with the attack will receive massive damage and meteor effect smash.
Special Moves
Inkling comes with four special attacks. We have detailed them below.
Neutral Special – Splattershot
It deals 0.3 per shot. This is Inkling’s main shooter. Inkling will take out the shooter and start firing ink from it. Each shot will deal a moderate damage to enemies. You can aim up and down as well. The attack will eventually drain all of the ink from Inkling’s stock. Low stock of range will result in lower range of shots.
Side Special – Splat Roller
It deals 4-15.9 damage. This is yet another Inkling’s traditional weapon from its own game. Splat Roller is used to spread ink easily on a large area by holding it and running around. For this attack, Inkling will bring out the same Splat Roller and rush towards the enemies. You can increase the speed and decrease at will as well.
When the speed has dropped too low, Splat Roller will deal no damage to enemies and the knockback will also vanish but the Inkling will keep rolling it around. You can increase the speed again by pressing forwards on the controller to bring back damage and knockback. To cancel, you will need to press the special or attack button again. Using this attack in the air has no difference. As you roll around, your ink will continue to decrease. Enemies hit by Splat Roller are pinned to the ground and get a debuff with all the ink on them.
Up Special – Super Jump
It deals 8 damage if the enemy is hit directly by the attack. If someone gets hit by the splash of the damage, they will receive 6 damage. This is the best recovery move for Inkling. The best thing about this attack is that no ink is consumed for this attack and you can perform it even if you have no ink left in your stock.
For this attack, Inkling will jump into a puddle of ink in its squid form and then explode up in the air and punching anything coming in its way. While going up, it will keep splashing ink all around itself. During the launch phase, you can use the control stick to set a launch trajectory as well if you do not want Inkling to go straight up.
Down Special – Splat Bomb
This attack deals 8-14 damage to enemies. Inkling will throw a Splat Bomb on the stage. You can control the distance it covers by holding the button longer. If you release the button quickly, Inkling will throw the bomb right above himself which will quickly detonate right in front of Inkling.
You can charge the bomb by holding the special button. Once the weapon has been charged, release the button to throw a more powerful Splat Bomb on the stage. It will fly ahead and will explode after hitting an enemy. If something else comes in the way, it will still explode. This is excellent for harassing recovering players.
Final Smash – Killer Wail
Once you have launched Inkling’s Final Smash, Inkling will deploy a Killer Wail special weapon on the stage. This will emit a powerful, massive laser in front which has a huge range. You can move this ray up and down with the control stick. While this is active, you have complete control over Inkling and can move it around the stage.
