Isabelle Detailed Guide – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Isabelle Guide details everything that you need to know about Isabelle in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Introduction

Isabelle has her slingshot for use in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. She is very good in air control with the slingshot. She has the ability to catch items and other shots with Pocket. This comes in use for making long-range attacks literally useless if you can combine them together and perform them in a sequence.

Isabelle also comes equipped with her Fishing Rod and Lliod Trap which are used for attack moves and chaining together combos. Most of her attacks are much similar to Villager but she adds a few of her own touches to them to make them unique. She has the ability to Tether as well.

Attacks

We have detailed Isabelle’s moves below.

Grounded Attacks

This section of the guide details everything about Isabelle’s attacks which can be performed while she is on the ground.

Neutral Attack

Isabelle’s neutral attack has only one attack which deals 2 damage if you press it one. However, you can press and hold the button if you want to land a continuous attack. Isabelle will bring out her red hammer and perform a slash in front of her. This attack will deal moderate amount of damage to enemies but you can hold the attack button to continue swinging it in her front.

Dash Attack

This is a solid damage dealer although it looks silly to perform. Isabelle will run at her enemies with a vase in her hand. She trips while running and falls down sending the vase in her hand flying ahead. The vase hits enemies and deals damage to them. If it hits the ground, it breaks. After the hit, Isabelle can juggle the enemies hit by it.

Defensive Attacks

Isabelle’s ledge attack deals 9 damage while her wakeup attack while facing up and down deals 7 damage to enemies.

Titls

Isabelle has three Tilt attacks. We have detailed them below.

Side Tilt

It deals 9 damage. Isabelle will open a pink parasol with white stripes and use it to hit enemies in front of her. All the damage is focused on the open parasol. If someone is hit by the handle, they get little damage as well. A good hit will knock enemies away from Isabelle.

Up Tilt

It deals 9 damage to enemies. Isabelle will use a broom to land a sweeping attack above her. This also deals a decent amount of damage to enemies. The attack goes from up to back and then up to forward. The speed of this swing is pretty fast.

However, the attack’s focus is on the back first so someone at the front can land an attack during this time. Enemies hit by the broom will be all clean for your next attack in the air.

Down Tilt

It deals 13 damage to enemies. Isabelle will bend down, grab a weed and pluck it out from the ground from its roots. Enemies that come in the way will be sent flying with the weed. However, they have to be really close to Isabelle to take any sort of damage. Once hit, damage dealt is quite decent.

Smash Attacks

Isabelle has three Smash attacks. We have detailed them below.

Side Smash

It deals 17-23.8 damage to enemies. Isabelle will bring out some fireworks and confetti for this attack. Both of them combined together will result in a powerful explosive attack which will send enemies flying in the air.

Up Smash

It deals 2, 12-2.8, 16.8 damage to enemies. Isabelle will blow a whistle which will result in a Stop sign popping up from the ground. It will rise to full height eventually and at full height, its damage is also maximum. The hitbox is small so do not expect to hit too many enemies with this attack.

Down Smash

It deals 10 damage at the front, 8 at the back then again 14 at the front and ends with a hit dealing 11.2 damage at the back. Isabelle will spin at her place while holding a water bucket. This will make her spill water on enemies standing around her. Attack at her behind will make enemies fly away from Isabelle. This is a good attack for clearing out the space around Isabelle and get some free space.

Grabs

Isabelle’s normal grab attack deals 1.3 damage to enemies. Throwing them at the front deals 9 damage, Back throw will deal 11 damage, Up Throw 10 damage and Down Throw 6 damage. For grabbing, Isabelle will use a giant net to capture enemies. With the net, Isabelle gets a good range to wrap up her enemies before throwing them.

The speed of Isabelle’s grab attack is very low so you will need to time the attack right. If you opt for throwing them at your back, enemies will not go too far and you will have a chance to go for a follow up attack.

Aerial Attacks

This section of the guide details all of Isabelle’s air attacks along with their strong and weak points. Isabelle can perform five aerial attacks and we have detailed them below.

Neutral Air Attack

It deals 10 damage. Isabelle will spin in the air with pom-poms in both her hands. With this attack, Isabelle can hit her enemies on both sides during this attack. This is also her fastest air attack so you can initiate this attack very quickly.

Forward Air Attack

It deals 7 damage. Isabelle will shoot a blue ball like projectile at her front. The ball will hit the enemies and deal damage to them. This attack has highest damage early in the attack. As the projectiles travels in the game, the damage will continue to decrease. The projectile also has excellent range.

Back Up Attack

It deals 9 damage. This is similar to Forward Air Attack as Isabelle will launch a similar blue projectile on the back side using her Slingshot. During this attack, the projectile will travel a decent range but the highest damage is during the early phase of the launch. As the projectile travels down the path, damage will continue to decline.

Up Air Attack

It deals 10 damage. Isabelle will perform a powerful attack above her using a pair of turnips. Isabelle will go much higher in the air with this attack but the damage keeps on declining as Isabelle goes up further so it is best to hit enemies earlier in the fight.

Down Air Attack

It deals 10 damage. Isabelle will drop down to the ground with the same pair of turnips she uses for going Up Air Attack. The attack is slower in speed but it is good for knocking enemies off the stage or bouncing them for follow up attacks.

Special Attacks

Isabelle has four Special attacks and we have detailed them below.

Neutral Special – Pocket

With this attack, Isabelle will simply grab any incoming projectiles and other items thrown at her right out of the air like its nothing. She will then store it in her pocket. You can pick items both from the ground and from the air with this useful special move. If you are storing something in Isabelle’s Pocket, an icon will appear next to her portrait.

When you throw these items back at enemies, the damage dealt to them will depend on what sort of item it is. When you want to throw the item, Isabelle will hold the item in her hand and will get ready to throw it ahead. You can then throw these items at enemies to deal a decent amount of damage to them.

This is a very helpful move against enemies who cannot have more than one throwable item active on the screen at the same time. When they launch their item, simply pick it up with this move and they will not be able to land that attack again until you throw it back. This is a very deadly move that can make certain characters deprived of their most prized moves.

Side Special – Fishing Rod

This attack is a combo of four attacks, first attack will deal 16 damage, second 11, third 14 and the last attack will deal 12 damage to enemies. Isabelle will take out her Fishing rod and use it to damage and reel in enemies. Enemies will only be reeled in if the Fishing Rod’s end hits them. Without hitting them, you cannot reel them in by simply pulling it back towards yourself.

While throwing, you can pick a direction for the throw using the control stick. Throwing enemies away while tethered with the fishing rod will also deal a good amount of damage to them. You can also use this attack in the air and it will help you reel in enemies just fine.  You can use it to grab enemies, throw them up in the air and then follow up with a combo. Throwing them back and front will also deal them knockback.

This attack works exceptionally well against enemies who are trying to get back on the stage. Simply throw the fishing rod in the direction where they have to come back up from and watch the magic happen. However, be careful as you might fall down yourself if you stick to it for too long. If you do, use Balloon Trip to quickly get back up.

You can also use the Fishing Rod to reel in useful items on the stage and it also works as a grappling hook. If you don’t reel anything in for five seconds, Isabelle will automatically start reeling it back in. You can also move the pole of the Fishing Rod around by moving Isabelle herself around the stage.

Up Special – Balloon Trip

This attack does not deal any damage as this is purely a movement attack. You will need to use this move specially for movement. No damage can be dealt with this attack. Isabelle will summon a swing with two balloons and will fly in the air above the stage. However, enemies can attack and pop the balloons making this useless.

The balloon will restock after some time so you will need to wait until they are back before using the attack again. Without the balloons, this ability will not do much good for you. Once the balloons are all used up during flight, they will let go automatically leaving Isabelle falling to the ground with no response. You can control the flight with the control stick.

Down Special – Lloid Trap

This attack will deal 1.6×2, 0.9×3 and 12 damage to enemies. For this attack, Isabelle will plant Lloid in the ground. Lloid will head underground and wait for 10 seconds for approaching enemies. If someone steps on it, Lloid will emerge from the ground and launch in the air with the enemy. Along the way it will keep hitting enemies. Upon reaching the peak, Lloid will explode for an explosive finish to the move.

You can also launch it yourself if you press the down special button input again. This will ensure that if someone is trying to come from the air, they do not miss their friend Lloid by jumping above it. You can use Lloid to make it easier to trap enemies for more attacks as well. You can also plant it on the edges for ledge control.

Final Smash – Dream Town Hall

For the final smash, Isabelle will call Tom Nook and will get a full town constructed in the middle of the stage. All enemies who are caught in the construction zone receive heavy damage. However, this attacks lacks range so make sure that you closer to enemies to actually damage them.
