Lucario Detailed Guide – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Lucario Guide details everything that you need to know about Lucario in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Introduction

Lucario excels at air combat but it is no slouch on ground either. As the match progresses and it receives more damage, its special Aura mechanic increases Lucario’s damage as well. Lucario is a very agile fighter and it can wall cling, crouch walk and wall jump as well. However, to really excel with Lucario you will need some practice with its moves and abilities to make them effective in different scenarios.

Its attacks pack a decent amount of punch and as the Aura keeps increasing, attacks keep getting stronger and stronger. Lucario excels at aerial combat more than ground combat so you must ensure that you are in the air most of the time while playing with Lucario. Its grapple attack is extremely fast to make sure that you use it often.

You can check the strength of its Aura by the blue flames emitting from its arms. This effects Lucario’s every move and altering the damage it deals to enemies. As Lucario keeps taking damage, it gets more and more powerful however it does not exceed 2.5x at which the total damage output becomes 190% the normal damage it dishes out.

Attacks

We have detailed Lucario’s moves below.

Grounded Attacks

This section of the guide details all of Lucario’s ground attacks.

Neutral Attack Combo

Lucario’s neutral attack is a combo of three hits. The first hit deals 1.7 damage, second 1.3 damage and the last one 2 damage and knocks enemies away from Lucario. If Aura is high, damage will be increased drastically.

Dash Attack

Lucario’s Dash attack deals 6.6 damage to enemies. It runs to enemies and lands a powerful flying kick that sends enemies flying in the air away from Lucario. If you hit enemies early with the kick, the damage output is much higher. In addition, damage is much increased if the aura is higher. Both the tail and kick will damage enemies.

Defensive Attacks

Lucario’s ledge attack deals 5.9 damage, while both face up and face down wake up attacks deal 4.6 damage to enemies. Out of these attacks, only the ledge attack is influenced by the aura.

Tilts

Lucario has three Tilt attacks detailed below.

Side Tilt

It deals 2.6 and 4 damage. Enemies hit by the attack are also knocked back in the air. The damage is effected by Aura’s strength. Lucario will land a powerful palm hit to enemies in front. You can use the control stick to move this a little up or down depending on how you want to attack your enemies.

Up Tilt

It deals 4 damage to enemies. For this attack, Lucario will land a powerful wheel kick above it which will send enemies flying above himself. Aura will increase the damage of the attack if it is high. Lucario lands this kick in the form of an arc which starts at the back and goes all the way to the front. This means that enemies both at the front and the back are hit with this attack.

Down Tilt

It deals 3.3 damage. Lucario will get low and land a powerful kick attack to enemies standing at the front. Enemies hit by the attack will be knocked off their feet. If you want to follow up with a combo after this attack, make sure you perform this attack when your aura is high.

Smash Attacks

Lucario has three smash attacks. We have detailed them below.

Side Smash

This powerful attack deals 10.6 damage to enemies. This attack is greatly influenced by the aura. Lucario will lean back and then land a powerful palm attack on enemies standing in its front. If you have high aura, this attack will allow you to knock out enemies easily with a single hit even if they are on low percentage.

Up Smash

This attack deals 2.6 and 9.2 damage to enemies. Higher aura will greatly increase the damage and knockback of this attack. For this attack, Lucario will crouch to the ground and then head up with a powerful fist attack above itself sending enemies flying in the air above it.

If someone is closer to Lucario, they will be damaged earlier with the low attack as well. Similar to Side Smash, Up Smash will be most powerful at higher aura levels. Enemies hit by the initial low attack will be taken up as well for the upward thrust attack.

Down Smash

This attack deals 9.2 damage to enemies. Landing this attack with higher aura will ensure that much higher damage is dealt to enemies with increased knockback. Lucario will use his palms to attack on his both sides with a powerful knockback. This is a good area attack and is useful for clearing out enemies both at the front and at the back.

Grabs

Lucario’s normal grab attack deals 0.9 damage to enemies. Front throw deals 5.2 damage while the back throw deals 6.6 damage. Throwing enemies up will deal 6.6 damage while throwing them down will deal 4.6 damage. Both up and down throws will set enemies up for juggle combos. For grabbing, Lucario’s speed is average and a more decent range.

If you have high aura, the damage of the throws is not affected instead, the knockback of the throws will be increased. We recommend that you stick to up throw or down throw for most effective throws and a potential follow up combo.

Aerial Attacks

This section of the guide details Lucario’s aerial attacks.

Neutral Air Attack

It deals 5.3 and 4 damage to enemies. In the air, Lucario will spin and perform a powerful two hit attack to enemies around itself. This attack will deal enemies both at the front and at the back. The attack has low range and the attack boxes are also small so you will need precision to hit enemies with it. However, the attack has a very small recovery time allowing you to follow with more attacks.

Forward Air Attack

It deals 4 damage to enemies. For this attack, Lucario will land a powerful kick to enemies in the front. The recovery time for this attack is exceptionally low which allows it to follow up with more attacks right after landing the attack. At higher aura levels, you can easily follow up with more powerful combos since the knockback with be much higher.

Back Air Attack

It deals 14 damage to enemies. Lucario will turn around and land a powerful punch attack on its back. Enemies hit will be launched away from the hit. When your aura is high, this is a stellar attack and one of Lucario’s most powerful attacks. However, the speed of the attack is quite slow and you must time it right to land it on enemies.

Up Air Attack

It deals 7.3 damage to enemies. Lucario will land a powerful somersault kick above itself that will launch enemies even higher than before. This attack is effective against shields and good against jumping enemies as well. After hitting them, you can follow them for more potential follow-up combos.

Down Air Attack

It deals 3.3 and 4 damage to enemies. Lucario will perform a very quick dual hit to enemies below using its legs that is excellent to interrupt slower attacks and keeping enemies away from ledges if they are trying to recover. This is also a good move if you to stop in mid-air while falling down towards the stage.

Special Attacks

Lucario has four special attacks that are detailed below.

Neutral Special – Aura Sphere

It deals 4.6 damage by default and if you charge the attack it goes up to 11.4 while fully charged. The size of the energy ball also increases when you charge the attack up. Lucario will spawn an aura ball and send it towards enemies dealing damage to them. If someone comes close to the sphere even when it is being charged, enemies will be damaged.

If aura is high, the damage dealt by this sphere and its size increases massively in size. At full size, it is hard to avoid by enemies as well when it is thrown at them. Use this attack for preventing enemies from recovering from ledges as it can throw them off ledges easily.

Side Special – Force Palm

Upon grabbing, this attack deals 8.5 damage and thrown projectiles deal 7.8 damage. This attack has two variations. If there is an enemy close to Lucario, it will grab the enemy and then blast them away with a powerful palm attack. If no enemy is near Lucario, it will fire a projectile at its enemies.

Both attacks will be effected by Lucario’s aura. High aura means more damage in both scenarios. If someone is grabbed at close range, they cannot shield the attack. This attack is so powerful that if aura is high, enemy will be knocked out easily with one hit. At the highest level of aura, even the grabbing deals damage to enemies.

Up Special – Extreme Speed

It deals 4 damage upon impact. Lucario will suddenly rush high in the air and then crash into enemies with enormous force. The impact will knock all enemies away from Lucario and deal damage to them. If you time the attack right, enemies hit by the tail will be KO’d. The distance to which Lucario goes up in the air depends on Lucario’s aura at the time.

The recovery time for this attack depends on Lucario’s aura. If it is high, Lucario will go up a great deal and then come crashing down to the ground during which it can be attacked. You can also glide to the ground if you are coming down with your arms and legs wide spread in the air.

Down Special – Double Team

It deals 8.2 damage to enemies. For the Down Special, Lucario will enter a counter stance and will keep absorbing damage for some time. Upon a successful parry, Lucario will split in different images of itself and land a powerful sliding kick sending them flying in the air.

If you use the control stick and push it forward after countering an attack, Lucario will appear at a different location and fly towards the enemy to land a powerful kick. The nature of the attack will remain the same, only Lucario’s spot of appearance will change. The state of aura will also affect the damage dealt to enemies.

Final Smash – Aura Storm

For its Final Smash, Lucario will transform into Mega Lucario and heads straight up in the air. From the air, it then sends down Aura in a powerful force attack. You can choose the direction of attack with the control stick.
