Lucas Detailed Guide – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Lucas Guide details everything that you need to know about Lucas in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Introduction

Lucas excels in many departments from Ness with whom he shares most of his moves and fight style. He can unleash PK powers with which he has the ability to control fire, ice and thunder and his special moves are based around them. His attacks are faster with less recovery time as well.

He is also much better than Ness in ground combat. His Rope Snake helps a lot in making Lucas more agile in various situations. However, he can only jump once while he is in midair which seriously hinders his aerial combat effectiveness. You will need a little practice with his special moves to land them perfectly in place.

Attacks

We have detailed Lucas’s moves below.

Grounded Attacks

This section of the guide details all of Lucas’s ground attacks.

Neutral Attack Combo

Lucas’s neutral attack combo has three attack combos. The first hit will deal 2.5 damage, second 1.5 while the final hit will deal 3.5 damage while knocking the enemies away. This is Lucas’s fastest attacks. The whole combo is focused around kicks while the final kick is the most powerful kick that can knock enemies away.

If someone shields the attack do not transition into the third kick. First two hits getting blocked are safe while the third one will leave you vulnerable for counter attacks. The complete combo is pretty fast so most enemies will not get time to shield the attack in time. Another safe bet is to land first two kicks and go for a grab attack.

Dash Attack

Lucas’s Dash attack deals 13 damage to enemies and launches them in the air setting them up nicely for a follow up combo. Lucas will land a powerful palm attack on his enemies and this will release PK energy from the hand while attacking making it a solid damage dealer. If you manage to hit the enemies with the tip of the attack, they will receive maximum damage and knockback.

Defensive Attacks

Lucas’s ledge attack deals 9 damage and wakeup attack deals 7 damage to enemies.

Tilts

Lucas has three Tilt attacks and we have detailed them below.

Side Tilt

It deals 11 damage to enemies. Lucas will land a powerful backhand slap to his enemies which results in a PK blast. Enemies caught in the range of the PK blast receive maximum damage and knockback. Enemies hit by arm receive less damage and knockback. The strength of this Side Tilt makes it like a mini smash attack.

If you want to change the direction of the attack slightly, you can use the control stick and aim a little higher or lower to adjust the angle of enemy’s knockback. You can use this attack to prevent enemies from recovering off stage.

Up Tilt

It deals 1.5 and 8 damage to enemies. After the second hit, enemies are launched in the air. Lucas will jump up inverted and land a powerful kick with a PK blast. While inverting, Lucas will attack on his both side with his hands so this attack can deal damage in three places. Enemies hit by the attack are carried up in the air and launches them above Lucas.

Down Tilt

It deals 5 damage to enemies. Lucas will land a low kick attack that will deal decent damage and offer slight knockback with it. This is a very fast attack so you can use it anytime you want and as much times as you would like.

Smash Attacks

Lucas has three Smash attacks and we have detailed them below.

Side Smash

It deals 15 to 21 damage to enemies. Lucas will use a wooden stick to launch a powerful attack and smash enemies away. You can also use this attack to knock away enemy projectiles coming towards you but you must time it right. This might lack punch when compared to Ness’s bat but it is faster to land.

Up Smash

This attack deals 2 to 21 and 2.8-29.4 damage to enemies. After the combo ends, enemies are launched in the air for a potential follow up combo. This attack takes some time to land. Lucas will crouch and begin gathering energy from his surroundings. After enough power has been gathered, Lucas will aim up with his arms and release the energy in a powerful beam upwards.

Enemies can even be hit by Lucas arms as he moves them up and them down on both of his sides. They will be launched in the air and sent flying with the beam above which will then explode them with a powerful PK smash at the top. The highest damage is at the earliest of releasing this energy. As the beam goes up, damage is reduced and so is the knockback.

The recovery time of this attack is huge and it is one of the highest in the whole game as well. You will need to be very mindful while landing this attack because it can cause troubles if you are caught in between some fighters. This attack works best in 1v1 but can cause troubles for you if multiple enemies are fighting in the same round.

Down Smash

This attacks knocks enemies away from Lucas and deals them 17 to 23.8 damage. This is yet another powerful attack during which Lucas will lean back and then lean forward to aim with his arms as finger guns. Where he points on the ground, a PK blast will emerge. After the initial blast, Lucas will aim at three more spots on the ground and more PK blasts will happen there. The only problem will this attack is the high recovery time.

Grab Attacks

Lucas’s normal grab attack deals 1.3 damage to enemies. Front, back and up throw deal 10 damage while the down throw will deal 11 damage to enemies. Up throw results in enemies flying high above Lucas to be followed with more potential attacks. Down throw will bounce enemies off the ground allowing you to follow with more attacks.

For grabbing, Lucas uses his special rope which is like a snake. You can also use it to tether Lucas to walls and ledges to plan attacks from there. The speed of Lucas’s grab is decent however its range is very good and enemies seldom escape his range.

Aerial Attacks

In the air, Lucas can land the following attacks.

Neutral Air Attack

This attack deals 2×3 damage for the initial quick attacks and the last attack deals 4 damage and knock the enemies away from Lucas. Lucas will invert jump in the air while staying in the place with a PK blast all around him. At the end of the attack, Lucas will emit a strong blast that knocks everyone away from him. Enemies could be launched at the front or the back depending on Lucas’s direction while landing the finishing move.

This attack is strictly focused around Lucas’s body and cannot deal damage to enemies if they are at some distance. The attack stays active for a decent period so you can lay traps for enemies recovering or dropping from the air using this attack and predicting their landing trajectory. The recovery time is low so if you miss it is not a big deal.

Forward Air Attack

This powerful attack deals a solid 12.5 damage to enemies. For this attack, Lucas will land a powerful kick in his front which has a PK blast to it. The attack is slower than other attacks so you will need to time it right to make it land and in time before enemy attacks connect with you. Enemies can be damaged if they hit the leg but the best damage dealing spot is the PK blast for this attack.

Back Air Attack

This attack deals 12 damage to enemies hit by it. It also causes meteor smash effect to enemies hit by Lucas’s foot. Lucas will spin in his spot and land a powerful spinning kick behind himself. The kick starts from back up and goes all the way to back down. The kick has a powerful PK blast with it as well which deals maximum damage and knockback at its peak. This attack covers all of Lucas’s back.

Up Air Attack

This attack deals 11 damage to enemies and launches them even higher above Lucas. For this attack, Lucas will rise up and land a powerful head butt attack to enemies above him. With this attack, enemies are launched even higher than they already are in the air. Use this attack against enemies dropping down to ground helplessly and follow up with some more punishment.

Down Air Attack

This combo of attacks deal 3.5×3 and 5 damage to enemies. For this attack, Lucas will land four powerful kicks to the ground down with the first three dealing less damage and the final one a most powerful attack which has meteor attack effect to itself.

Special Attacks

Lucas has four special attacks and we have detailed them below.

Neutral Special – PK Freeze

This attack deals 10-23 damage to enemies. As you charge the attack, the damage will keep on increasing. For this attack, Lucas will summon an ice orb and use it as a slow mortar over the stage and can detonate it on command. As you keep the button down, Lucas will not detonate the ice orb and you can move it around.

As you move it around the stage, it is also charging at the same time which increases its damage and knockback. When you release the button, the ice orb explodes and deals heavy damage to all enemies around the orb. This is yet another great attack to harass enemies as they never know when you will explode the ice orb.

Side Special – PK Fire

This attack deals 3 and 7 damage. Lucas will fire a fire bolt in his front which turns into a big fire energy bolt if it comes in contact with enemies. If someone shields the attack, it is useless. You can perform this attack both on the ground and in the air. It offers the same damage dealing in both situations. This attacks is excellent for harassing enemies. If they shield, fine, if they do not, they are dealt decent damage.

Up Special – PK Thunder

This attack deals 2.5 with the first hit and followed by 0.8 per hit during the flurry of attacks. For this attack, Lucas will summon a lightning snake which can be steered around using the control stick. During this attack, a small arrow appears next to Lucas which is essentially a guide for you to control the direction of PK Thunder. Be careful as while using this attack, if the snake comes in contact with a solid surface or object, it will disappear. However, it has the ability to travel through different enemies so you can use it to attack different enemies with the same attack move.

You can also aim the snake at Lucas himself to charge him with electricity. Upon impact, Lucas is launched in the air full of electric charge. Any enemies that come into contact at this point are dealt with. Lucas will land several quick attacks over the course of his jump at his enemies. This also serves as a solid recovery tool in Lucas’s arsenal.

Down Special – PSI Magnet

This attack deals 8 damage to enemies. Lucas will generate a PSI Magnet focused on his hand which will absorb all incoming energy shots and use them to heal himself. The PSI Magnet is kept in place until you hold the button. Release the button and the sphere will disappear. Enemies closer to the sphere will also be pulled in towards the sphere.

Upon releasing the button, they will be damaged slightly by the disappearing sphere. This is not a proper attack but it can deal a certain amount of damage to enemies. If you activate the sphere in the air, Lucas’s drop speed will decrease. You can use it for some off stage moves.

Final Smash – PK Starstorm

Lucas will call upon Kumatora and Boney and join hands together to unleash a powerful kinetic force powered meteor shower on the stage. They will continue to rain down on the ground for some time. Using control stick at this point can slightly adjust the falling angle to left or right.
