Mega Man Detailed Guide – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Mega Man Guide details everything that you need to know about Mega Man in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Introduction

Since Mega Man has Mega Buster built in his left arm, this means that he does not have a normal melee attack like most of fighters in the game. Most of his attack use his Mega Buster in place of melee attacks. With the amount of gadgets Mega Man has his sleep, you will need to be able to devise a strategy easily to take down your enemies.

Mega Man also excels in aerial combat. He can wall jump as well which means that he is not very easy to throw off the stage. He is mostly a ranged fighter and very few attacks will require him to get up close and personal with his enemies. His ranged attacks deal a solid punch to enemies.

Attacks

We have detailed Mega Man’s moves below.

Grounded Attacks

This section of the guide details all of Mega Man’s ground attacks.

Neutral Attack Combo

Mega Man’s neutral attack could be a combo of two to four hits depending on how much you input. The first hit is a melee hit with the Mega Buster while the remaining are ranged shots. The melee hit deals 1 damage while each projectile deals 2 damage to enemies. As the Mega Buster shots travel more, their hitstun decreases massively.

Dash Attack

Mega Man’s dash attack deals 1.2×7 and 4 damage to enemies. While running, Mega Man will turn into a tornado while dealing damage to enemies caught in it. The final hit will deal more damage to enemies and knock them away in the air flying. This does not give you a window to follow with more attacks because enemies are knocked away from Mega Man.

Defensive Attacks

Mega Man’s ledge attack deals 9 damage to enemies and wake up attack deals 7 damage to enemies.

Tilt Attack

Mega Man has three tilt attack detailed below.

Side Tilt

It deals 2 damage to enemies. Mega Man will fire from his Mega Buster. He can move around while shooting and this attack can also be performed while in the air. This attack has no melee hit before.

Up Tilt

This attack deals a solid 17 damage to enemies and launches enemies high in the air above Mega Man. If you hit enemies early with this attack, damage output will be much higher. This is Mega Man’s X2 Shoryuken attack. It will blast all nearby enemies high in the air. Enemies closer to Mega Man receive more damage as well.

After the attack, Mega Man’s recovery time is much higher which means that he cannot follow up with another attack. Also watch out for enemy shields. If shielded, Mega Man will be left open for enemy attacks and combos in the air. However, if landed this is a solid attack in Mega Man’s arsenal.

Down Tilt

This attack deals 8 damage to enemies. Enemies are launched above Mega Man and similar to Up Tilt, early hits with this attack will deal more damage to enemies. Mega Man will launch towards his enemies with his leg stretched out for a powerful kick.

Enemies hit by this kick are launched high in the air. Make sure to launch the attack when you are closer to enemies for maximum damage. Apart from increased damage, early hits will send enemies much higher in the air as well.

Smash Attacks

Mega Man has three smash attacks and we have detailed them below.

Side Smash

This attack deals from 11.5-13.8 damage depending on how much you charge the attack. Charging not only increases the damage of the attack but also its range. This attack has a slow start time because Mega Man will first charge up his attack before unleashing a powerful Mega Buster shot.

Make sure no one is around you while you are charging your shot because you cannot do anything to prevent incoming attacks while charging it up. Leave the charge if you have to by releasing the button if you see an enemy approaching.

Up Smash

This attack deals 2, 1.5×5 and 6 damage to enemies and launches them in the air with the powerful final kick. This is Mega Man’s Spark Man imitation as he raises two lightning rods above himself and surges them with a powerful current. All enemies above Mega Man are hit multiple times with the attack before a final blow launches them away from Mega Man. This is a good attack if you want to KO some enemies easily.

Down Smash

This attack deals a solid 17 damage to enemies and launches them high in the air away from Mega Man. Mega Man will put two Flame Man flamethrowers on his sides and unleash two powerful fire bursts. These bursts will set nearby enemies on fire and send them flying away from Mega Man.

The damage dealt to enemies is huge and this attack also covers both sides so it is pretty safe to use. However, watch out for enemy shields because of shielded, the recovery time of this attack is pretty high.

Grab Attacks

Mega Man normal grab attack deals 1.3 damage to enemies. Forward throw deals 8 damage while back throw deals 11 damage. Throwing them up will deal 7 damage and launch them high in the air above Mega Man. Down throw deals 4.5 damage but it bounces off enemies which can be great for following up with more attacks.

For grabbing, Mega Man will bring out Guts Man’s Super Arm. This has very good range and grabbing speed is also pretty fast. Use the down throw if you want to follow up with more combos. Up throw is not very easy to follow up with more attacks unless you simply want to launch enemies away in the air.

Aerial Attacks

This section of the guide lists Mega Man’s air attacks.

Neutral Air Attack

This attack deals 2 melee damage and 2 projectile damage. After the melee hit, you can fire upto three Mega Buster shots at enemies. Mega Man will start the attack by punching the enemy with his Mega Buster and then following it up with three ranged shots. You can even continue the attack if you land on the ground to complete the four hit combo.

Forward Air Attack

This attack deals 8.5 damage to enemies and sends them flying away from Mega Man. You can deal increased damage to enemies if you manage to hit them early with the attack. Mega Man will use Sword Man’s Flame Sword and land a powerful swipe attack at his front. Hitting enemies early will set them on fire and launch them away. Hitting them late in the attack will simply damage them and might knock them back a little.

Back Air Attack

This attack is a combo of three hits. First hit deals 3 damage, second hit deals 4 damage while the final hit deals 5 damage to enemies and launches them away from Mega Man. This is a flurry attack as Mega Man turns around and uses Slash Man’s claws to land some powerful slashes. The final hit will send enemies flying in the air. The recovery time is pretty high for this attack so keep an open window after landing the attack.

Up Air Attack

This attack deals 3×3, 2, 2, 1×5 and 2 damage to enemies. This is yet another tornado type attack as Mega Man will fire Wind Man’s Air Shooter above him. As the tornado travels up, it drags enemies up with itself and keeps damaging them until it keeps spinning.

If any enemy is hit with the complete attack, they are dealt a massive amount of damage. If you jump slightly and land this attack, you can also use it against tall enemies on the ground such as Bowser.

Down Air Attack

This is a powerful attack and deals a solid 14 damage to enemies. From the air, Mega Man will transform his Mega Buster into Hard Man’s Hard Knuckle and send it down to the ground. As it is going down to the ground, it will deal most damage as it is recently released. As it travels down, the damage output decreases.

However, as it goes down, it will get additional spiking meteor effect. It boasts decent range and solid damage when it hits an enemy. This is excellent for keeping enemies from recovering and sending down projectiles on them from the air above them. The recovery time is higher with this attack so you will need to watch out for enemies if you miss this attack.

Special Attacks

Mega Man has four special attacks and we have detailed them below.

Neutral Special – Metal Blade

This attack deals 5 damage to enemies. Mega Man will throw Metal Man’s spinning saw at his enemies to cut through them and deal damage. A single saw can deal multiple enemies as it cuts through them making it an ideal attack for crowd control. Another great thing about this attack is that you can shoot it in any of the eight possible directions in the game.

If it lands on the ground, enemies can pick it up and throw it back at you however the damage will be greatly reduced when it is picked up from the ground and then thrown at you. Although this sounds tempting but you can only shoot one saw at one time and until it disappears from the stage, you cannot shoot another saw.

Side Special – Crash Bomber

This attack deals 1×4 and 4 damage to enemies. For this attack, Mega Man will take out Crash Man’s Crash Bomber and deploys a timed explosive device on the stage. This device will explode after two seconds and will send enemies flying to the other side. However, Mega Man can also be launched in the air with its blast so you must be careful after firing it.

It is best if you shield the bomb attack yourself to keep yourself safe from its force. If someone shields the blast, you can always go after them with a combo because you will be free in the back and ready to move in for another attack. Enemies can plant the bomb at you as well if they are quick enough so keep your distance after shooting one.

Up Special – Rush Coil

This special move is neither offense nor defense but it greatly helps in moving around the stage as Mega Man deploys Rush. Rush will stay active for two seconds on the stage. Mostly Mega Man will be able to jump only once but if you land on Rush again while he is still active, you can jump another time as well.

However, be mindful that enemies can also use Rush to jump after you so be careful. To jump even higher, you can deploy his again after jumping from Rush from the ground. This gives you an excellent movement advantage over your enemies.

Down Special – Leaf Shield

This attack deals 1.5xnumber of attacks which range from 3 to 8. The final hit deals 3.8 damage to enemies. This combo could have a maximum of nine hits. For this attack, Mega Man will deploy the Wood Man’s Leaf Shield. It has four leaves which keep rotating and deal damage to enemies if they hit them. After deployment, Mega Man will also throw some leaves ahead at enemies.

This is an excellent ledge guarding attack. Go to the ledge, activate this attack and literally no enemy will be able to recover while this shield is active. Since this attack can also be performed in the air so if someone tries to jump over you, you can also jump above them and land this attack on them.

Final Smash – Mega Legends

For the Final Smash, Mega Man will throw a Black Hole Bomb on the stage which will pull enemies towards itself. If someone is trapped in it, nearly all generations of Mega Man will appear on the stage along with Proto Man and Bass and shoot their Mega Busters at the same time to deal massive damage to enemies caught in the Black Hole.
