Supermassive Games has officially announced the release date for its upcoming cinematic sci-fi horror adventure Directive 8020. Directive 8020 will launch on October 2, 2025, on PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Alongside the announcement, the studio debuted a gripping new story trailer at Sony’s State of Play showcase, offering a deeper look into the eerie and dangerous world of the game.
The trailer immerses you in the dark corridors of the spaceship Cassiopeia, highlighting new characters, eerie environments, and unsettling threats lurking in the shadows. It also teases tense survival sequences where crew members must outmaneuver a shape-shifting alien predator. Will Doyle, Creative Director at Supermassive Games, emphasized the intensity of the experience, stating that the game will push you to confront the unknown and make life-or-death decisions in a terrifying deep-space setting.
Check out the new Story Trailer:

Set in a distant future where Earth is on the brink of collapse, Directive 8020 follows the journey of the Cassiopeia, a colony ship sent on a desperate mission to establish a new home for humanity. Their destination, Tau Ceti f, offers a fragile hope for survival, but the mission takes a disastrous turn when the ship crash lands. The surviving crew soon discovers that they are not alone—the planet harbors a hostile alien organism with the terrifying ability to mimic its prey. Paranoia sets in as the crew struggles to identify who among them is still human and who has been taken over by the deadly entity.
To survive, you will need to navigate a web of fear, trust, and betrayal. The game will feature a dynamic narrative where every choice matters, affecting not only the fate of the crew but also the survival of humanity itself. Throughout the experience, you will take control of five different crew members, each facing their moral dilemmas and terrifying encounters.
The gameplay introduces several new mechanics that add layers of tension and strategy. Stealth is a crucial element, with you needing to avoid detection by alien predators that can blend in seamlessly with the crew. The game provides various tools to aid in survival, including a flashlight for navigating dark areas, a scanner to detect electronics and manipulate systems, a messenger for silent communication with crewmates, and a wedge tool that can be used both to unlock doors and as a last-resort weapon to stun enemies.
Similar to The Dark Pictures Anthology, Directive 8020 brings a solid cinematic presentation featuring a strong cast led by actress Lashana Lynch. Known for her roles in No Time to Die, The Woman King, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Lynch takes on the role of the groundbreaking astronaut Young, bringing depth and intensity to the narrative. Fans of Supermassive Games’ The Dark Pictures Anthology will find plenty of familiar elements in Directive 8020, including its signature branching storylines, high-stakes decision-making, and quick-time events. However, the studio has refined and expanded its gameplay mechanics, introducing more immersive environments and heightened threats to keep you on edge.
Directive 8020 is slated for release on PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 2, 2025. If you are interested in playing the game when it launches later this month, you can add it to your wishlist right now on your desired platform. Pre-orders will go live ahead of its release in June 2025. Additional details will be revealed at a later point.
