Burden of Command Demo

Indie developer Green Tree Games LLC has announced the demo release of its latest project Burden of Command. Burden of Command is a unique tactical leadership RPG that puts you in the boots of a World War II company captain, tasked with leading a group of soldiers in the storied Cottonbalers regiment. In this emotionally charged game, you must navigate not only the physical dangers of the battlefield but also the psychological challenges that come with leadership. The demo is now available on Steam, offering a taste of the intense decisions you will face.

Set against the backdrop of World War II, Burden of Command focuses on more than just tactical warfare—it delves into the human side of leadership. You must master the art of building trust and respect among your men, as they struggle with the psychological toll of combat. The game is designed to reflect the emotional depth and gravity of real combat, with a significant emphasis on understanding battlefield psychology. By inspiring your soldiers and demoralizing the enemy, you can alter the course of battle, but every decision comes with weighty consequences.

At its core, the game offers realistic WWII tactical leadership. You must suppress, flank, and outmaneuver enemies with effective strategies that earn the respect of their squad. Poor tactics can lead to the ultimate price—death. With permadeath mechanics in play, every soldier lost is gone forever, adding a layer of gravity to each decision made in the heat of battle.

Burden of Command also serves as a leadership RPG, where guiding your men through personal crises and combat stress is as important as battlefield tactics. The way you choose to treat your soldiers directly impacts your morale and performance. This concept is brought to life through the Mindset system, which changes how soldiers think, speak, and act under pressure. Leading effectively means earning the trust and loyalty of your soldiers, turning them into a brotherhood willing to follow you through the most harrowing of battles.

The game features a narrative-driven campaign that takes you through 18 turn-based tactical battles, each one recreating historical events with accuracy. You will be faced with difficult choices, like when to push their men forward at great risk or when to withdraw to preserve lives. Every scenario is based on real historical accounts, satellite imagery, and expert input from military historians like Professor John McManus, who serves as an advisor and playtester.

Burden of Command is slated for an official release in Q1 2025 however a Steam page for the game is currently live where you can add the game to your wishlist and also download the new demo and try it out. Additional details about the game will be announced at a later date.
