After staying in the shadows for a long time, developer Techland has now come back in the light with additional details about its upcoming title Dying Light 2. The game’s lead designer gave an interview recently to WCCFTECH in which the developer shared some additional details about Dying Light 2 which were not known previously including the campaign length, overall game completion time, and the aspect of dynamic encounters in the game.
During the interview with WCCFTECH, the game’s lead designer Tymon Smektala explained that the game’s length actually depends on how the player plays the game. Since Dying Light 2 will feature an open world for players to explore, the game’s overall length will be completely different for rushers and completionists. According to Tymon Smektala, the average time for the Dying Light 2 campaign completion is around 20 hours but the overall completion could take players nearly 2-3 times more than that. He detailed:
If you rush it, you should be able to finish the story in roughly 20 hours. But to see it all, you’d have to spend 2-3 times more time than that. Our opening area alone can last for over 7-8 hours if you want to explore every nook and cranny, so there’s absolutely a lot to play here.
This shows that Dying Light 2 will take a long time to complete if players choose to focus on all of the content offered in all of the areas of the game. The lead designer also answered a question about the dynamic encounters in the game and whether they will be like those featured in the Red Dead Redemption 2 to which he replied:
Absolutely! There are a lot of stories in Dying Light 2’s world. We were holding back with this aspect of the game, as we wanted to use it as icing on the main story’s narrative cake. We have introduced them relatively recently, roughly in the second half of last year, and they’ve added a lot of life and vibrancy to our world.
2020 was an extremely quiet year for Techland as our previous news and bits about the game date back to 2019.
