The Last of Us TV show has just got a new director for its pilot episode according to THR reports. The TV show of the popular game series was originally announced to be directed by Johan Renck, the director of HBO’s acclaimed Chernobyl series, who because of a scheduling conflict had to back out.

The new director for The Last of Us TV show is Kantemir Balagov, the Russian director who is best known for Beanpole and Closeness. Balagov has won the best director award at Cannes Film Festival for Beanpole in 2019.

Creative director of The Last of Us game series., Neil Druckman had a few words to say about the Russian director being signed in to direct the TV adaption of the game.

The Last of Us TV show was announced last year in March, where we learned that the show will cover the complete events of the first game and additional content might be added to the series based on the latest sequel The Last of Us Part II. The Last of Us is one of the most successful franchises in PlayStation’s history so the show has a huge reputation to uphold.

The latest title in the series, which is also the sequel to the first game, The Last of Us Part 2 has just won the game of the year award in December 2020. The game secured eight awards in the ceremony include the best narrative, best performance, best action/direction, best audio design, best game direction, and innovation in accessibility.
