The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remake Releasing for Switch

In a surprise announcement made right at the end of the Nintendo Direct, Nintendo has revealed that it is releasing a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for the Nintendo Switch.

A trailer released was shown at the event, but details were still scarce about the new 3D remake of the game. take a look at the trailer below:

From the trailer, it seems that the remake retains the same top-down perspective that was originally on the Game Boy, also making it the first 3D Zelda game for the Switch.

Originally released for the Game Boy™ system more than 25 years ago, one of the most beloved games in the Legend of Zelda series returns. In this modern re-imagining, players once again return to the mysterious island of Koholint to guide Link on a perilous adventure. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening arrives exclusively on Nintendo Switch in 2019.

The game was originally released back in 1993 for the Game Boy, the first time that the franchise came to a portable gaming device. The remake now seems like a fitting addition to the Nintendo Switch portable console.

The game is unlike the other typical games of the series, as it is set in Koholint island as compared to the usual Hyrule. Link finds himself washed ashore after a shipwreck on an island that he can escape by retrieving eight magical instruments and waking the isle’s guardian called the Wind Fish.

A release date has not been confirmed as Nintendo says that The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will come sometime in 2019, which is a broad release window.

Nintendo Direct is filled with announcements of remakes and games for the Nintendo Switch this year. There are four Final Fantasy Games coming all through the early part of this year, while Square Enix has announced a new JRPG Oninaki for the Nintendo Switch.
