Open World Game The Pathless to Run Seamlessly on PS5, No Load Times

The Pathless

Creators of Abzu, Giant Squid, recently announced its upcoming open-world title, The Pathless, releasing on the PlayStation 5 console. The developers have stated how they have used the console’s features for the game to enhance the player experience.

Starting with the DualSense controller of the PlayStation 5, where the developers will have you immersed in the vibrant world of The Pathless, making you feel like you are actually in the world of the game.

The Pathless will also make use of the immersive 3D audio of the console. Matt Nava, the creative director over at Giant Squid talked about the feature,

We built The Pathless with highly spatial 3D audio sources. We split ambient sounds into many small sources all around the environment to really immerse the player in the world. Our game features a number of exotic biomes, and the PS5’s audio technology will make it feel like you’re running, sliding, and shooting through each one of them.

Lastly, The Pathless will run seamlessly on the console, taking full advantage of zero load times with the powerful SSD of the PS5.

From day one we’ve been focusing on creating a seamless experience with no load screens on PS5. We stream our level from the disk as fast as possible, and with the unparalleled power of the PS5’s SSD we can stream in distant parts of the level with no loss of performance. Slowly filling progress bars are a thing of the past; the only thing you won’t be able to do is check your phone.

While most of the details are specific to how the game will run on the PS5, we don’t really have many details about the game other than you play as a skilled archer tasked with cleansing a cursed island with the help of an eagle companion. However, the developers do plan on future details that will be shared, with more innovative features that will be used in the game.
